Summary of "Role of oxidative stress in epithelial ovarian cancer in Egyptian patients."

Ovarian cancer has the highest mortality rate amongst all gynecologic malignancies. 90% of the cases are epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). Ovarian cancer associated with reduction in the serum level of antioxidants super oxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) and increasing in the serum level of Malondialdehyde (MDA).

Engrailed-2 (EN2) - a novel biomarker in epithelial ovarian cancer.

Epithelial ovarian cancer is a common malignancy, with no clinically approved diagnostic biomarker. Engrailed-2 (EN2) is a homeodomain-containing transcription factor, essential during embryological n...

KDM6B promotes ovarian cancer cell migration and invasion by induced transforming growth factor-β1 expression.

KDM6B, also known as JMJD3, is a member of the family of histone lysine demethylase (KDMs), which is closely related to many types of cancers. However, its role and the underlying mechanisms in ovaria...

Inhibition of Ca -activated chloride channel ANO1 suppresses ovarian cancer through inactivating PI3K/Akt signaling.

Most common ovarian cancers are epithelial carcinoma in which the etiology for carcinogenesis remains elusive. ANO1/TMEM16A, a member of Ca -activated Cl channels (CaCCs), has been demonstrated to pro...

Prognostic factors in epithelial ovarian cancer: A population-based study.

The overall survival (OS) of patients with ovarian cancer is poor while epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecologic cancer. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the clinico-...

Isoprenylcysteine carboxylmethyltransferase regulates ovarian cancer cell response to chemotherapy and Ras activation.

Inhibition of isoprenylcysteine carboxylmethyltransferase (Icmt), which catalyzes the final step of oncoproteins' prenylation, targets growth and survival of various cancers. In this work, we systemat...

Study of 6b11-OCIK Injection Treatment in Patients With Drug-resistant and Recurrence Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

This is a phase I clinical trial of cytotoxic T cell injection induced by dendritic cells loaded with 6B11 anti-idiotype minibody (6b11 - OCIK injection) for recurrent platinum-resistant e...

Normal Values of Oxidative Stress, Taurine, and Related Markers

The role of oxidative stress in disease pathology is increasingly recognized. At present, the development of biomarkers of this state is in its infancy and the availability of clinically v...

Paclitaxel + Carboplatin With AVB-S6-500 in Women With Stage III or IV Epithelial Ovarian, Primary Peritoneal, or Fallopian Tube Cancer Receiving Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy

The receptor tyrosine kinase AXL is a pathway that plays a crucial role in metastasis and chemoresistance. Overexpression of AXL has been associated with metastasis, recurrence, and chemor...

Thalidomide in Treating Patients With Refractory or Resistant Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs such as thalidomide may stop the growth of cancer cells by stopping blood flow to the tumor. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of thalidomide in treating...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A disturbance in the prooxidant-antioxidant balance in favor of the former, leading to potential damage. Indicators of oxidative stress include damaged DNA bases, protein oxidation products, and lipid peroxidation products (Sies, Oxidative Stress, 1991, pxv-xvi).

An activating transcription factor that plays a key role in cellular responses to GENOTOXIC STRESS and OXIDATIVE STRESS.

Autosomal dominant HEREDITARY CANCER SYNDROME in which a mutation most often in either BRCA1 or BRCA2 is associated with a significantly increased risk for breast and ovarian cancers.

The appearance of carbonyl groups (such as aldehyde or ketone groups) in PROTEINS as the result of several oxidative modification reactions. It is a standard marker for OXIDATIVE STRESS. Carbonylated proteins tend to be more hydrophobic and resistant to proteolysis.

A protein deglycase that repairs methylglyoxal- and glyoxal-glycated amino acids and proteins, releasing repaired proteins and lactate or glycolate. It deglycates CYSTEINE, ARGININE and LYSINE residues to reactivate proteins by reversing glycation and prevent the formation of ADVANCED GLYCATION END PRODUCTS. It protects cells against OXIDATIVE STRESS and CELL DEATH by functioning as an oxidative stress sensor and redox-sensitive MOLECULAR CHAPERONE and PROTEASE. Mutations in the PARK7 gene are associated with autosomal-recessive, early-onset PARKINSON DISEASE.
