Distribution-based operational taxonomic unit-calling (dbOTU) improves on other approaches by incorporating information about the input sequences' distribution across samples. Previous implementations of dbOTU presented challenges for users. Here we introduce and evaluate a new implementation of dbOTU that is faster and more user-friendly. We show that this new implementation has theoretical and practical improvements over previous implementations of dbOTU, making the algorithm more accessible to microbial ecology and biomedical researchers.

The accumulation of scientific knowledge on calling is limited by the absence of a common theoretical and measurement framework. Many different models of calling have been proposed, and we do not know...
Mice produce various sounds within the ultrasonic range in social contexts. Although these sounds are often used as an index of sociability in biomedical research, their biological significance remain...
Insertions and deletions (INDELs) comprise a significant proportion of human genetic variation, and recent papers have revealed that many human diseases may be attributable to INDELs. With the develop...
Global reforms in health professions education, including midwifery, support the transformation of education programmes to adopt competency-based models. Lesotho, a small sub-Saharan African country, ...
Testing of patients with genetics-related disorders is in progress of shifting from single gene assays to gene panel sequencing, whole-exome sequencing (WES) and whole-genome sequencing (WGS). Since W...
The purpose of the current pilot study will be to utilize implementation intentions to increase patient compliance with appointment attendance. Participants in the current study will be i...
This randomized phase I trial studies at-home group video calling sessions in quality of life in rural patients with breast cancer. At-home group video calling support sessions may improve...
This study will test the effects of the Leadership and Organizational Change for Implementation (LOCI) intervention in facilitating evidence-based practice (EBP) implementation in substanc...
The purpose of this study is to compare two different strategies to implement a new method to identify patients with HNPCC, which appeared cost-effective and feasible. The effectiveness, c...
Insomnia is a commonly reported comorbidity for adolescents with psychiatric conditions. It is well-known that insomnia can exacerbate the concurrent psychiatric symptom load. Results from...
A distribution in which a variable is distributed like the sum of the squares of any given independent random variable, each of which has a normal distribution with mean of zero and variance of one. The chi-square test is a statistical test based on comparison of a test statistic to a chi-square distribution. The oldest of these tests are used to detect whether two or more population distributions differ from one another.
The probability distribution associated with two mutually exclusive outcomes; used to model cumulative incidence rates and prevalence rates. The Bernoulli distribution is a special case of binomial distribution.
A distribution function used to describe the occurrence of rare events or to describe the sampling distribution of isolated counts in a continuum of time or space.
The most common etiologic agent of GAS GANGRENE. It is differentiable into several distinct types based on the distribution of twelve different toxins.
Continuous frequency distribution of infinite range. Its properties are as follows: 1, continuous, symmetrical distribution with both tails extending to infinity; 2, arithmetic mean, mode, and median identical; and 3, shape completely determined by the mean and standard deviation.
