Summary of "The N-butyl-N-4-hydroxybutyl Nitrosamine Mouse Urinary Bladder Cancer Model."

Urinary bladder cancer (UBC) is a common and complex malignancy, with a multifactorial etiology, like environmental factors, such as cigarette smoking, occupational exposure, and genetic factors.UBC exhibits considerable genotypic and phenotypic heterogeneity. Among all UBC lesions, urothelial carcinoma is the most frequently observed histological type. Despite all the developments made in urologic oncology field, therapeutic options remain inadequate. There is urgency for the identification and development of new antineoplastic drugs to replace or improve current protocols and in vivo models have been proven to be essential for this step. There are different animal models of
UBC:
Spontaneous and experimentally induced models (genetically engineered, transplantable-xenograft and syngeneic animals- and chemically induced models). N-butyl-N(4-hydroxybutil)nitrosamine (BBN) is the most suitable reagent to generate chemically induced in vivo models of UBC and to study bladder carcinogenesis. BBN has proven, over the years, to be very realistic and reliable. It is bladder specific, and induces high tumor incidence.

ISO, via Upregulating MiR-137 Transcription, Inhibits GSK3β-HSP70-MMP-2 Axis, Resulting in Attenuating Urothelial Cancer Invasion.

Our most recent studies demonstrate that miR-137 is downregulated in human bladder cancer (BC) tissues, while treatment of human BC cells with isorhapontigenin (ISO) elevates miR-137 abundance. Since ...

Orally administered nicotine effects on rat urinary bladder proliferation and carcinogenesis.

Tobacco smoking is a major risk factor for human cancers including urinary bladder carcinoma. Cigarette smoke inhalation in mice and orally administered nicotine in rats and mice increased urothelial ...

Urinary MicroRNAs as Potential Biomarkers of Bladder Cancer.

Currently, there are no urinary-based tumour markers with sufficient sensitivity and specificity to replace cystoscopy in the detection of bladder cancer (BCA). Urinary microRNAs are emerging as clini...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Tumors or cancer of the URINARY BLADDER.

A HERNIA-like condition in which the weakened pelvic muscles cause the URINARY BLADDER to drop from its normal position. Fallen urinary bladder is more common in females with the bladder dropping into the VAGINA and less common in males with the bladder dropping into the SCROTUM.

Symptom of overactive detrusor muscle of the URINARY BLADDER that contracts with abnormally high frequency and urgency. Overactive bladder is characterized by the frequent feeling of needing to urinate during the day, during the night, or both. URINARY INCONTINENCE may or may not be present.

An abnormal passage in the URINARY BLADDER or between the bladder and any surrounding organ.

Involuntary discharge of URINE as a result of physical activities that increase abdominal pressure on the URINARY BLADDER without detrusor contraction or overdistended bladder. The subtypes are classified by the degree of leakage, descent and opening of the bladder neck and URETHRA without bladder contraction, and sphincter deficiency.
