Inhibition of methionine gamma lyase deaminase and the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis: A therapeutic target for halitosis/periodontitis.

Summary of "Inhibition of methionine gamma lyase deaminase and the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis: A therapeutic target for halitosis/periodontitis."

Pathogenic infections caused by Porphyromonas gingivalis, Treponema denticola, and Tannerella forsythia can result in the production of volatile sulfur compounds (VSC's) and other toxic compounds from methionine catabolism that can lead to halitosis and periodontitis. Our aim is to block the activity of methionine gammalyase-deaminase (Mgld) of methionine catabolism to prevent halitosis/periodontitis.

Selective growth inhibition of Porphyromonas gingivalis and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans by antisense peptide nucleic acids.

Peptide nucleic acids (PNA) are DNA/RNA analogs in which the sugar-phosphate backbone is replaced by N-2-aminoethylglycine. PNA are widely used for experimental antisense therapy due to their strong a...

Tolerance induced by Porphyromonas gingivalis may occur independently of TLR2 and TLR4.

Periodontitis is a microbe-induced chronic inflammatory disease. Previous exposure of the host to bacteria or their virulence factors leads to refractory responses to further stimuli, which is called ...

Controlled cellular redox, repressive hemin utilization and adaptive stress responses are crucial to metronidazole tolerance of Porphyromonas gingivalis persisters.

Antimicrobial-tolerant microbial persisters critically account for various infections and inflammation. This study identified the characteristics of Porphyromonas gingivalis persisters, and explored t...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A species of gram-negative, anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria originally classified within the BACTEROIDES genus. This bacterium produces a cell-bound, oxygen-sensitive collagenase and is isolated from the human mouth.

A species of gram-negative bacteria in the genus PORPHYROMONAS, family Porphyromonadaceae. It is a key pathogen in endodontic infections.

A preparation of METHIONINE that includes a mixture of D-methionine and L-methionine isomers.

A stable synthetic analog of methionine enkephalin (ENKEPHALIN, METHIONINE). Actions are similar to those of methionine enkephalin. Its effects can be reversed by narcotic antagonists such as naloxone.
