Summary of "Treating Adult Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Brazil-Increased Early Mortality Using a German Multicenter Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia-based regimen."

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in adults is an invariably aggressive and rare disease. Its treatment is based on the use of multidrug regimens, which have been improved since the 1970s. Few published data are available on the results of adult ALL treatment in Latin America.

Blast Percentage of Bone Marrow Aspirate on Day 14 of Induction Chemotherapy Predicts Adult Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Treatment Outcomes.

The prognosis of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia is much worse than that of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia, even when patients achieve complete remission. Early response to treatment can be...

Concurrent Acute Myelofibrosis and Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in Childhood: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Myelofibrosis is associated with a wide variety of neoplastic and non-neoplastic bone marrow diseases, predominately myeloproliferative neoplasms and acute myeloid leukemia. The following case documen...

Hypophyseal involvement of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

We present an unusual case of hypophyseal involvement in a boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia via magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings. In our case, the acute lymphoblastic leukemia of the pitu...

Treatment outcomes of children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in a middle-income developing country: high mortalities, early relapses, and poor survival.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most common childhood cancer, yet surprisingly, very few studies have reported the treatment outcomes and the relapse rate of patients from low/middle-income countr...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Conditions in which the abnormalities in the peripheral blood or bone marrow represent the early manifestations of acute leukemia, but in which the changes are not of sufficient magnitude or specificity to permit a diagnosis of acute leukemia by the usual clinical criteria.

A tyrosine kinase inhibitor and ANTINEOPLASTIC AGENT that inhibits the BCR-ABL kinase created by chromosome rearrangements in CHRONIC MYELOID LEUKEMIA and ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA, as well as PDG-derived tyrosine kinases that are overexpressed in gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

A pyrimidine nucleoside analog that is used mainly in the treatment of leukemia, especially acute non-lymphoblastic leukemia. Cytarabine is an antimetabolite antineoplastic agent that inhibits the synthesis of DNA. Its actions are specific for the S phase of the cell cycle. It also has antiviral and immunosuppressant properties. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p472)

Enzyme that is a major constituent of kidney brush-border membranes and is also present to a lesser degree in the brain and other tissues. It preferentially catalyzes cleavage at the amino group of hydrophobic residues of the B-chain of insulin as well as opioid peptides and other biologically active peptides. The enzyme is inhibited primarily by EDTA, phosphoramidon, and thiorphan and is reactivated by zinc. Neprilysin is identical to common acute lymphoblastic leukemia antigen (CALLA Antigen), an important marker in the diagnosis of human acute lymphocytic leukemia. There is no relationship with CALLA PLANT.

A genus in the family RETROVIRIDAE consisting of exogenous horizontally-transmitted viruses found in a few groups of mammals. Infections caused by these viruses include human B- or adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (LEUKEMIA-LYMPHOMA, T-CELL, ACUTE, HTLV-I-ASSOCIATED), and bovine leukemia (ENZOOTIC BOVINE LEUKOSIS). The type species is LEUKEMIA VIRUS, BOVINE.
