Summary of "Methadone maintenance treatment: A 15-year retrospective study in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia."

The aim of this retrospective study is to use existing epidemiological data on patients in methadone maintenance treatment in Split Dalmatia County from 2001 to 2015 in order to evaluate the substitution treatment system and policy of opiate addicts treatment, the epidemiological trend, and risk of overdose mortality. In addition, we would like to highlight the problem of poor control of methadone therapy, and thus the possibility of selling methadone. The result is a greater number of deaths caused by methadone in people who were not in methadone therapy.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A synthetic opioid that is used as the hydrochloride. It is an opioid analgesic that is primarily a mu-opioid agonist. It has actions and uses similar to those of MORPHINE. It also has a depressant action on the cough center and may be given to control intractable cough associated with terminal lung cancer. Methadone is also used as part of the treatment of dependence on opioid drugs, although prolonged use of methadone itself may result in dependence. Medical treatment for opioid dependence using a substitute opiate such as METHADONE or BUPRENORPHINE.

Studies used to test etiologic hypotheses in which inferences about an exposure to putative causal factors are derived from data relating to characteristics of persons under study or to events or experiences in their past. The essential feature is that some of the persons under study have the disease or outcome of interest and their characteristics are compared with those of unaffected persons.
