Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell count, morphology and flow cytometric evaluations are used to investigate central nervous system (CNS) involvement in leukemia/lymphoma. We performed CSF short tandem repeat (STR) analysis to monitor CSF chimerism status and evaluate for disease involvement in 11 asymptomatic pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients with hemato-lymphoid neoplasms and high risk for or history of CNS involvement. Eighteen (64%) of the samples with median CSF cell count of 1/mm with 90% lymphocytes gave conclusive STR results, suggesting that this DNA-based method can be used in monitoring CSF chimerism status after HSCT with an acceptable yield.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell (allo-HSC) transplantation is used in the treatment of malignant hematological diseases. An important tool in monitoring post-transplantation evolution is represente...
Adult neural stem cells in the wall of brain ventricles make direct contact with cerebrospinal fluid. In this issue of Cell Stem Cell, Petrik et al. (2018) demonstrate that these neural stem cells se...
To examine the early glial reactivity and neuron damage in response to short-term cerebrospinal fluid pressure (CSFp) reduction, as compared with intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation.
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) might be altered by iatrogenic blood contamination, precluding accurate diagnostic interpretation.
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is currently the only way to cure thalassemia, one of its main obstacles is the rejection after transplantation, chimerism continued to decline, whi...
Decreasing donor chimerism is considered as an early sign of graft failure or relapse in patients undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The treatment option included tapering or...
Allogeneic stem cell transplant (allo-SCT) is a common treatment for variety of blood cancers. To determine how much of your cells are from your donor after transplant, doctors complete a ...
RATIONALE: Determining whether erlotinib passes into the cerebrospinal fluid may help in planning treatment for some types of cancer. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well erl...
In this project we are collecting cerebrospinal fluid and blood from patients at Vanderbilt Medical Center who have a subarachnoid hemorrhage which has followed the rupture of a brain aneu...
Discharge of cerebrospinal fluid through a hole through the skull bone most commonly draining from the nose (CEREBROSPINAL FLUID RHINORRHEA) or the ear (CEREBROSPINAL FLUID OTORRHEA).
Tubes inserted to create communication between a cerebral ventricle and the internal jugular vein. Their emplacement permits draining of cerebrospinal fluid for relief of hydrocephalus or other condition leading to fluid accumulation in the ventricles.
Discharge of cerebrospinal fluid through the nose. Common etiologies include trauma, neoplasms, and prior surgery, although the condition may occur spontaneously. (Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 1997 Apr;116(4):442-9)
Proteins in the cerebrospinal fluid, normally albumin and globulin present in the ratio of 8 to 1. Increases in protein levels are of diagnostic value in neurological diseases. (Brain and Bannister's Clinical Neurology, 7th ed, p221)
Manometric pressure of the CEREBROSPINAL FLUID as measured by lumbar, cerebroventricular, or cisternal puncture. Within the cranial cavity it is called INTRACRANIAL PRESSURE.
