American Stroke Association guidelines for prehospital acute ischemic stroke recommend against bypassing an intravenous tPA-ready hospital (IRH), if additional transportation time to an endovascular-ready hospital (ERH) exceeds 15-20 min. However, it is unknown when the benefit of potential endovascular therapy at an ERH outweighs the harm from delaying intravenous therapy at a closer IRH, especially since large vessel occlusion (LVO) status is initially unknown. We hypothesized that current time recommendations for IRH bypass are too short to achieve optimal outcomes for certain patient populations.

Elevations in systolic blood pressure (BP) greater than 140 mmHg are reported in the majority (75%) of patients with acute ischemic stroke and in 80% of patients with acute intracerebral hemorrhages ...
Recanalization of intracranial thrombus is associated with improved clinical outcome in patients with acute ischemic stroke. The association of intravenous alteplase treatment and thrombus characteris...
We assessed the outcomes of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients on dual antiplatelet therapy prior to stroke onset.
Poorly controlled blood glucose was reported to cause deterioration of acute ischemic stroke. In this study, we investigated whether an elevated admission serum glucose level in the 3-h time window of...
It has been difficult to state specific guidelines for IV-tPA use in cancer patients. Many of the randomized tPA-trials included too few patients with cancer or excluded patients with cancer entirely....
Ischemic stroke is the leading cause of acquired disability among adults, and one of the main causes of death. In Switzerland, the approved time window for stroke treatment with intravenou...
The effectiveness of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) management has improved considerably in recent years with thrombolysis and more recently with mechanical thrombectomy (MT). Currently, mech...
The purpose of this trial is to determine if intravenous administration of the metal ion trapping agent DP-b99 within 1-9 hours of acute ischemic stroke onset, and then for 3 additional da...
Prehospital stroke care in specialized ambulances increases thrombolysis rates, reduces alarm-to-treatment times, and improves prehospital triage. Preliminary analyses suggest cost-effecti...
The clinical and radiological data of patients with an acute ischemic stroke treated with intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) or intraarterial thrombolysis (IAT) in a Swiss stroke unit are asse...
A drug combination of aspirin and dipyridamole that functions as a PLATELET AGGREGATION INHIBITOR, used to prevent THROMBOSIS and STROKE in TRANSIENT ISCHEMIC ATTACK patients.
A morpholine and thiophene derivative that functions as a FACTOR XA INHIBITOR and is used in the treatment and prevention of DEEP-VEIN THROMBOSIS and PULMONARY EMBOLISM. It is also used for the prevention of STROKE and systemic embolization in patients with non-valvular ATRIAL FIBRILLATION, and for the prevention of atherothrombotic events in patients after an ACUTE CORONARY SYNDROME.
The sorting out and classification of patients or casualties to determine priority of need and proper place of treatment.
The application of repeated, brief periods of vascular occlusion at the onset of REPERFUSION to reduce REPERFUSION INJURY that follows a prolonged ischemic event. The techniques are similar to ISCHEMIC PRECONDITIONING but the time of application is after the ischemic event instead of before.
The presence of fungi circulating in the blood. Opportunistic fungal sepsis is seen most often in immunosuppressed patients with severe neutropenia or in postoperative patients with intravenous catheters and usually follows prolonged antibiotic therapy.

A stroke is a serious medical condition that occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. Strokes are a medical emergency and prompt treatment is essential because the sooner a person receives treatment for a stroke, the less damage is ...
