Summary of "Maintaining broadband gain in a Nd/Ybco-doped silica fiber amplifier via dual-laser pumping."

We report a 30 cm long Nd/Yb co-doped silica glass fiber amplifier with well-maintained broadband gain through simultaneous dual-laser pumping at 808 and 975 nm. By controlling the ratio of the pump power at 975 (P) and 808 nm (P), the emission band of Yb/Nd and the energy transfer efficiency of Nd→Yb can be well controlled; thus, a tunable broadband and flat gain in the range of 1036-1080 nm are obtained. The theoretical calculation of the energy transfer efficiency of Nd→Yb with dual-laser pumping of 808 and 975 nm explains well the mechanism of broadband and flat gain formation in the Nd/Yb co-doped fiber.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A solventless sample preparation method, invented in 1989, that uses a fused silica fiber which is coated with a stationary phase. It is used for sample cleanup before using other analytical methods.

A TEXTILE fiber obtained from the pappus (outside the SEEDS) of cotton plant (GOSSYPIUM). Inhalation of cotton fiber dust over a prolonged period can result in BYSSINOSIS.

A non-crystalline form of silicon oxide that has absorptive properties. It is commonly used as a desiccating agent and as a stationary phase for CHROMATOGRAPHY. The fully hydrated form of silica gel has distinct properties and is referred to as SILICIC ACID.

Techniques using laser energy in combination with a balloon catheter to perform angioplasty. These procedures can take several forms including: 1, laser fiber delivering the energy while the inflated balloon centers the fiber and occludes the blood flow; 2, balloon angioplasty immediately following laser angioplasty; or 3, laser energy transmitted through angioplasty balloons that contain an internal fiber.

Graphic registration of the heart sounds picked up as vibrations and transformed by a piezoelectric crystal microphone into a varying electrical output according to the stresses imposed by the sound waves. The electrical output is amplified by a stethograph amplifier and recorded by a device incorporated into the electrocardiograph or by a multichannel recording machine.
