08:00 EDT 17th July 2018 | BioPortfolio

Summary of "A Cross-sectional and Longitudinal Analysis of Trabecular Bone Score in Adults with Turner Syndrome."

Turner Syndrome (TS) is associated with short stature, gonadal failure, and fractures. Spinal trabecular bone score (TBS) is a novel bone imaging modality that has not been evaluated in TS.

High prevalence of vertebral fractures and low trabecular bone score in patients with fragility fractures: A cross-sectional sub-study of NoFRACT.

Norway has among the highest incidence rates of fractures in the world. Vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) and trabecular bone score (TBS) provide information about fracture risk, but their importanc...

A 9-Month Jumping Intervention to Improve Bone Geometry in Adolescent Male Athletes.

Sports have different effects on bone development and effective interventions to improve bone health of adolescent athletes are needed. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of a 9-mo...

Subregional areal bone mineral density (aBMD) is a better predictor of heterogeneity in trabecular microstructure of vertebrae in young and aged women than subregional trabecular bone score (TBS).

Currently, bone densitometry fails to identify nearly half of those elderly patients at immediate fracture risk. To improve clinical assessment of vertebral fracture risk, we aimed to determine how th...

Trabecular bone score in active or former smokers with and without COPD.

Smoking is a recognized risk factor for osteoporosis. Trabecular bone score (TBS) is a novel texture parameter to evaluate bone microarchitecture. TBS and their main determinants are unknown in active...

Material anisotropy and elasticity of cortical and trabecular bone in the adult mouse femur via AFM indentation.

This paper investigates the elastic properties of bone tissue in the adult mouse femur through Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) indentation with the goal of understanding its microstructure and underlyin...

Evaluation of Trabecular Microarchitecture of the Alveolar Bone by Micro-computed Tomography and of Osseointegration of Dental Implants by Resonance Frequency Analysis: Correlation Study.

Dental implants are a prosthetic rehabilitation device whose success depends of the bone morphology and quality, in more the surgical procedure. This study aims to assess whether the para...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Studies in which the presence or absence of disease or other health-related variables are determined in each member of the study population or in a representative sample at one particular time. This contrasts with LONGITUDINAL STUDIES which are followed over a period of time.

Descriptive anatomy based on three-dimensional imaging (IMAGING, THREE-DIMENSIONAL) of the body, organs, and structures using a series of computer multiplane sections, displayed by transverse, coronal, and sagittal analyses. It is essential to accurate interpretation by the radiologist of such techniques as ultrasonic diagnosis, MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING, and computed tomography (TOMOGRAPHY, X-RAY COMPUTED). (From Lane & Sharfaei, Modern Sectional Anatomy, 1992, Preface)

A method, developed by Dr. Virginia Apgar, to evaluate a newborn's adjustment to extrauterine life. Five items - heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, reflex irritability, and color - are evaluated 60 seconds after birth and again five minutes later on a scale from 0-2, 0 being the lowest, 2 being normal. The five numbers are added for the Apgar score. A score of 0-3 represents severe distress, 4-7 indicates moderate distress, and a score of 7-10 predicts an absence of difficulty in adjusting to extrauterine life.

A value equal to the total volume flow divided by the cross-sectional area of the vascular bed.

A microscope with a light source that can be projected into a linear beam. It allows cross-sectional viewing of the AQUEOUS HUMOR; CONJUNCTEIVA; CORNEA; EYELIDS; IRIS; and lens (see LENS, EYE) of the eye.
