Summary of "GRK5 is associated with the regulation of methadone dosage in heroin dependence."

There is no countable biomarker for opioid dependence treatment responses thus far. In this study, we recruited Taiwanese methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) patients to search for genes involving the regulatory mechanisms of methadone dose by genome-wide association analyses.

A cluster-analytic profiling of heroin-dependent patients based on level, clinical adequacy, and patient-desired adjustment of buprenorphine dosage during buprenorphine-naloxone maintenance treatment in sixteen Spanish centers.

Buprenorphine dosage is a crucial factor influencing outcomes of buprenorphine treatment for heroin use disorders. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to identify naturally occurring profiles o...

Family Related Factors and Concurrent Heroin Use in Methadone Maintenance Treatment in China.

The use of heroin during Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) is a challenging problem that contributes to poor treatment outcomes. Families may play an important role in addressing concurrent heroin...

QT length during methadone maintenance treatment: Gene x dose interaction.

Methadone is known to be a risk factor for sudden death by enlarging ECG QT corrected (QTc) interval. For other medical conditions, QTc lengthening has been described as the result of interactions bet...

Predictors of transitions across stages of heroin use and dependence prior to treatment-seeking among people in treatment for opioid dependence.

Little is known about transition pathways among heroin users prior to treatment. This study examined the demographic and clinical predictors of transition speed from heroin use, to dependence, to firs...

The Amino-Terminal Domain of GRK5 Inhibits Cardiac Hypertrophy through the Regulation of Calcium-Calmodulin Dependent Transcription Factors.

We have recently demonstrated that the amino-terminal domain of G protein coupled receptor kinase (GRK) type 5, (GRK5-NT) inhibits NFκB activity in cardiac cells leading to a significant amelioration...

Variance of Oral Methadone Dosage: Description of Implicated Factors

The purpose of this study is to describe clinical, pharmacokinetic and genetic factors associated with the variance of oral methadone dosage for patients at the steady state of heroin depe...

A Stepwise Strategy Utilizing Buprenorphine and Methadone

The objective of this study is to compare optimally given methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) for heroin dependence with a novel, sequential strategy, where patients are offered buprenor...

Transfer From Methadone to Buprenorphine Maintenance Treatment Using Buprenorphine Patches

Buprenorphine is an important alternative to methadone in the maintenance treatment of heroin addiction. Transfer from methadone to buprenorphine requires a reduction of daily methadone do...

The objective of this study is to determine whether the closely supervised provision of injectable, pharmaceutical-grade heroin (in combination with oral methadone) is more effective than ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Strong dependence, both physiological and emotional, upon heroin.

A synthetic opioid that is used as the hydrochloride. It is an opioid analgesic that is primarily a mu-opioid agonist. It has actions and uses similar to those of MORPHINE. It also has a depressant action on the cough center and may be given to control intractable cough associated with terminal lung cancer. Methadone is also used as part of the treatment of dependence on opioid drugs, although prolonged use of methadone itself may result in dependence. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p1082-3)

A syndrome associated with inflammation of the BRACHIAL PLEXUS. Clinical features include severe pain in the shoulder region which may be accompanied by MUSCLE WEAKNESS and loss of sensation in the upper extremity. This condition may be associated with VIRUS DISEASES; IMMUNIZATION; SURGERY; heroin use (see HEROIN DEPENDENCE); and other conditions. The term brachial neuralgia generally refers to pain associated with brachial plexus injury. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp1355-6)

Medical treatment for opioid dependence using a substitute opiate such as METHADONE or BUPRENORPHINE.

Derivative of noroxymorphone that is the N-cyclopropylmethyl congener of NALOXONE. It is a narcotic antagonist that is effective orally, longer lasting and more potent than naloxone, and has been proposed for the treatment of heroin addiction. The FDA has approved naltrexone for the treatment of alcohol dependence.
