Summary of "Multicenter Validation of the Vasoactive-Ventilation-Renal Score as a Predictor of Prolonged Mechanical Ventilation After Neonatal Cardiac Surgery."

We sought to validate the Vasoactive-Ventilation-Renal score, a novel disease severity index, as a predictor of outcome in a multicenter cohort of neonates who underwent cardiac surgery.

Vasoactive-inotropic score as a predictor of morbidity and mortality in adults after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.

The vasoactive-inotropic score (VIS) is a scale showing the amount of vasoactive and inotropic support. Recently, it was suggested that the VIS after cardiac surgery predicts morbidity and mortality i...

NACSELD Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure (NACSELD-ACLF) Score Predicts 30-Day Survival in Hospitalized Patients with Cirrhosis.

NACSELD (North American Consortium for the Study of End-Stage Liver Disease) definition of acute-on-chronic liver failure (NACSELD-ACLF) as ≥2 extra-hepatic organ failures has been proposed as a sim...

Prolonged mechanical ventilation worsens sepsis-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction in the rat.

Short-term mechanical ventilation (MV) protects against sepsis-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction. Prolonged MV induces diaphragmatic dysfunction in non-septic animals, but few reports describe the eff...

Effect of Sedation Regimen on Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit.

Intensive care unit patients undergoing mechanical ventilation have traditionally been sedated to make them comfortable and to avoid pain and anxiety. However, this may lead to prolonged mechanical ve...

Clinical outcome of Guillain-Barré syndrome after prolonged mechanical ventilation.

Patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) may suffer from respiratory failure for months or longer. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency, clinical course and outcome of patients wit...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

An anatomic severity scale based on the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and developed specifically to score multiple traumatic injuries. It has been used as a predictor of mortality.

Controlled studies which are planned and carried out by several cooperating institutions to assess certain variables and outcomes in specific patient populations, for example, a multicenter study of congenital anomalies in children.

A method, developed by Dr. Virginia Apgar, to evaluate a newborn's adjustment to extrauterine life. Five items - heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, reflex irritability, and color - are evaluated 60 seconds after birth and again five minutes later on a scale from 0-2, 0 being the lowest, 2 being normal. The five numbers are added for the Apgar score. A score of 0-3 represents severe distress, 4-7 indicates moderate distress, and a score of 7-10 predicts an absence of difficulty in adjusting to extrauterine life.

Cell surface proteins that bind VASOACTIVE INTESTINAL PEPTIDE; (VIP); with high affinity and trigger intracellular changes which influence the behavior of cells.

A pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide receptor subtype that binds both PACAP and VASOACTIVE INTESTINAL PEPTIDE. It is found predominately in the BRAIN.
