Recent studies have highlighted the importance of developing a multimodal therapeutic strategy for cancer cachectic patients. Considering the central role of metabolism and anorexia in this disease, optimized nutritional advice should be an integral part of this strategy. Current recommendations mainly focus on meeting caloric requirements. However, a few studies suggest the great potential of foods naturally enriched in nutrients presenting interesting physiological properties and the interest of using them in the management of cachectic patients. Among them, prebiotics shows the capacity to control inflammation in several debilitating diseases. In this context, this review aims to summarize the most recent findings related to functional foods and nutrients and cancer cachexia, and to discuss the potential use of prebiotics in this context.

This review will summarize recent findings of the effect of supplemental fatty acids, with an emphasis on omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, as a treatment for diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
The term "fatty acids" is conceptually well defined with regard to fats, whose extent of saturation or unsaturation is precisely indicated in the content description of foodstuff. In contrast, the ter...
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, specifically the fish-oil-derived eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), have been proposed as inflammation-resolving agents via their effects...
While the association between obesity and osteoarthritis used to be solely regarded as a result of increased mechanical loading, systemic factors also likely play a role in the pathophysiology of oste...
Here we present a Golden-Gate assembly system adapted for the rapid genomic engineering of the industrial fungus A. gossypii. This biocatalyst is an excellent biotechnological chassis for synthetic bi...
The primary objective of this study is to determine if omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids reduce atrial fibrillation and other outcomes after cardiac surgery. In this placebo-controlled t...
Inflammation in the adipose (fat) tissue is an important condition leading to metabolic derangements and cardiovascular disease in obese patients. n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids exert ant...
N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids(N-3 PUFAs) is important in balancing the immune function and physical health by reducing membrane arachidonic acid (AA) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) synthesi...
The investigators anticipate to identify specific polyunsaturated fatty acids that show significant differences between ADHD and control groups. In addition, these findings may offer more ...
RATIONALE: Polyunsaturated fatty acids are important for normal growth and development. One type, called omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish, fish oil, and some other foods), may affect the...
Acetyl CoA participates in the biosynthesis of fatty acids and sterols, in the oxidation of fatty acids and in the metabolism of many amino acids. It also acts as a biological acetylating agent.
Organic, monobasic acids derived from hydrocarbons by the equivalent of oxidation of a methyl group to an alcohol, aldehyde, and then acid. Fatty acids are saturated and unsaturated (FATTY ACIDS, UNSATURATED). (Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed)
FATTY ACIDS found in the plasma that are complexed with SERUM ALBUMIN for transport. These fatty acids are not in glycerol ester form.
UNSATURATED FATTY ACIDS that contain at least one double bond in the trans configuration, which results in a greater bond angle than the cis configuration. This results in a more extended fatty acid chain similar to SATURATED FATTY ACIDS, with closer packing and reduced fluidity. HYDROGENATION of unsaturated fatty acids increases the trans content.
Organic compounds containing the carboxy group (-COOH). This group of compounds includes amino acids and fatty acids. Carboxylic acids can be saturated, unsaturated, or aromatic.
Within medicine, nutrition (the study of food and the effect of its components on the body) has many different roles. Appropriate nutrition can help prevent certain diseases, or treat others. In critically ill patients, artificial feeding by tubes need t...
Cancer is not just one disease but many diseases. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. Most cancers are named for the organ or type of cell in which they start - for example, cancer that begins in the colon is called colon cancer; cancer th...
