Summary of "Does Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery Improve Patients' Quality of Life?"

Aortic valve replacement surgery is done to increase patients' life expectancy and improve their health-related quality of life. Several published studies have found improvement in health-related quality of life after this procedure, but none have involved patients in Portugal. This study sought to evaluate patients' health-related quality of life after the implantation of aortic prostheses and compare these values with preoperative health-related quality of life and the general Portuguese population's health-related quality of life.

Sutureless Valve Replacement Through a Right Anterior Mini-thoracotomy In Elderly Patients With Stenotic Bicuspid Aortic Valve.

Several indications for sutureless aortic valve replacement (SU-AVR) have been a matter of debate. We evaluated our experience with Perceval-S (LivaNova group, Saluggia, Italy) SU-AVR in patients with...

Valve-sparing aortic root replacement combined with bicuspidization for a quadricuspid aortic valve.

Quadricuspid aortic valves are rare congenital malformations. Although aortic valve replacement is the first-choice treatment in most cases, aortic valve repair using a tricuspidization procedure has ...

The effect of surgical versus transcatheter aortic valve replacement on endothelial function. An observational study.

The effects of surgical aortic valve replacement versus transcatheter aortic valve replacement on endothelial function are unknown. We investigated the effects of surgical and transcatheter aortic val...

This study aimed to assess the predictors of patient-prosthesis mismatch (PPM) after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) using preoperative comput...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Surgical treatment for severe AORTIC VALVE STENOSIS. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is used as an alternative option in patients who are deemed at high risk or inoperable for traditional open-heart surgery.

A type of heart valve surgery that involves the repair, replacement, or reconstruction of the annulus of the MITRAL VALVE. It includes shortening the circumference of the annulus to improve valve closing capacity and reinforcing the annulus as a step in more complex valve repairs.

A type of heart valve surgery that involves the repair, replacement, or reconstruction of the annuli of HEART VALVES. It includes shortening the circumference of the annulus to improve valve closing capacity and reinforcing the annulus as a step in more complex valve repairs.

The downward displacement of the cuspal or pointed end of the trileaflet AORTIC VALVE causing misalignment of the cusps. Severe valve distortion can cause leakage and allow the backflow of blood from the ASCENDING AORTA back into the LEFT VENTRICLE, leading to aortic regurgitation.

Pathological condition characterized by the backflow of blood from the ASCENDING AORTA back into the LEFT VENTRICLE, leading to regurgitation. It is caused by diseases of the AORTIC VALVE or its surrounding tissue (aortic root).
