Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of microalgae produces high amount of water-insoluble organic compounds, the biocrude oil. Using high-growth-rate Spirulina platensis as feedstock, product fraction distribution and biocrude oil chemistry from HTL at a temperature of 240-300 °C under acidic, neutral and alkaline condition were studied. Positive effects on biocrude oil yield were only found with KOH and acetic acid, and these effects were stronger under milder HTL conditions. FT-ICR MS showed that O class in the biocrude was high due to higher carbohydrate in the biomass, numbers of NO species present in the sample from acetic acid run, indicating its less decarboxylation ability. GC-MS showed more ketones and amides were formed from fatty acids in catalytic HTL, and this effect was sensitive toward reaction temperature. GPC suggested more light volatiles were in biocrude from KOH run, while analysis from NMR, FT-IR and elemental confirmed its high oil quality.

Microalgae can not only purify and recover the nutrients from wastewater, but also be harvested as wet biomass for the production of biocrude oil via hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). Chlorella sp. cul...
Forced degradation study of argatroban under conditions of hydrolysis (neutral, acidic and alkaline), oxidation, photolysis and thermal stress, as suggested in the ICH Q1A (R2), was accomplished. The ...
The hydrolysis mechanisms of 2-sulfoalkanoic acid methyl ester salts (methyl ester sulfonate, MES) were studied. Under acidic, neutral, and alkaline conditions, the hydrolysis rates of MES were strong...
pH is one of the most important factors affecting speciation and stabilization of arsenic and heavy metals in soil. In this study, Fe-Mn binary oxide (FMBO), synthesized by redox and precipitation rea...
Both humic acid and arsenic (As) have a strong affinity to ferrihydrite colloids (FH). However, little is known about effects of humic acid colloid (HA) and FH interaction on transport and deposition ...

Septic shock is the most common cause of death in patients requiring intensive care. The kidney is one of the first organs to fail, stressing the importance to search for clinical interven...
Alkaline phosphatase is known to be produced by syncytiotrophoblasts in the placenta and its levels are normally increased in pregnancy. Therefore, it would be reasonable to hypothesize th...
The purpose of this study is therefore to evaluate the effect of concomitant drugs known to affect solubility of drugs through increase of intra-gastric pH levels on the bioavailability of...
The purpose of this study is to test the effect of increasing the body pH with an Alkaline agent (NaHCO3) on glucose homeostasis and insulin resistance in non diabetic subjects. The inves...
A genus of coccoid, extremely halophilic HALOBACTERIACEAE which grows in alkaline conditions. They are nonmotile and strictly aerobic and are found in soda lakes, alkaline salterns, and soda soils.
A genus of rod-shaped, extremely halophilic HALOBACTERIACEAE which grows in alkaline conditions. They are strictly aerobic and some strains are motile. Natronobacterium is found in soda lakes, alkaline salterns, and soda soils.
A species of gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacteria found in hot springs of neutral to alkaline pH, as well as in hot-water heaters.
