Summary of "Development and Pilot Testing of a Computerized Asthma Kiosk to Initiate Chronic Asthma Care in a Pediatric Emergency Department."

Emergency department (ED) visits are an opportunity to initiate chronic asthma care. Ideally, this care should be implemented in a fashion that limits utilization of scarce ED resources. We developed, iteratively refined, and pilot tested the feasibility of a computerized asthma kiosk to (1) capture asthma information, (2) deliver asthma education, and (3) facilitate guideline-based chronic asthma management.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Small-scale tests of methods and procedures to be used on a larger scale if the pilot study demonstrates that these methods and procedures can work.

Diseases of long duration and generally slow progression. The four main types of noncommunicable diseases are CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES (e.g., heart attacks and stroke), CANCER, chronic respiratory diseases (e.g., CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE and ASTHMA) and DIABETES MELLITUS.

Detection of or testing for certain ALLELES, mutations, genotypes, or karyotypes that are associated with genetic traits, heritable diseases, or with a predisposition to a disease, or that may lead to the disease in descendants. It includes prenatal genetic testing.

An ADRENERGIC BETA-2 RECEPTOR AGONIST with a prolonged duration of action. It is used to manage ASTHMA and in the treatment of CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE.

Testing in which the source of the specimen or the person being tested is not individually identified.
