Summary of "Downregulation of NGAL is Required for the Inhibition of Proliferation and the Promotion of Apoptosis of Human Gastric Cancer MGC-803 Cells."

Gastric cancer is considered as a common malignancy with a poor prognosis as well as unsatisfactory treatment. Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) has been reported to affect multiple aspects of human tumor, including gastric cancer. This study aims to explore the effects of NGAL gene silencing on the proliferation as well as apoptosis of human gastric cancer MGC-803 cells.

NGAL attenuates renal ischemia/reperfusion injury through autophagy activation and apoptosis inhibition in rats.

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is a main cause of acute kidney injury (AKI), and currently lacks effective therapies. This study is to investigate the level of Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipo...

Galangin Induces Apoptosis in MCF-7 Human Breast Cancer Cells Through Mitochondrial Pathway and Phosphatidylinositol 3-Kinase/Akt Inhibition.

The study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanism of inhibition of proliferation and apoptosis induction by galangin against MCF-7 human breast cancer cells.

Downregulation of PTTG1 expression inhibits the proliferation and invasiveness and promotes the apoptosis of human prostate cancer LNCaP-AI cells.

To investigate the effects of down-regulation of PTTG1 expression on the proliferation, invasiveness and apoptosis of androgen-independent human prostate cancer LNCaP-AI cells and their sensitivity to...

microRNA-608 inhibits human hepatocellular carcinoma cell proliferation via targeting the BET family protein BRD4.

Over-expression of the bromodomain and extraterminal (BET) family protein BRD4 is associated with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. In the present study, we indentified a novel putative anti...

Suppression of Elk1 inhibits thyroid cancer progression by mediating PTEN expression.

ETS‑domain containing protein (Elk1) is reported to be a member of the ETS oncogene family, and promotes tumorigenesis in cancer such as bladder, prostate and ovarian. Nevertheless, the role of Elk1...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A 6-kDa polypeptide growth factor initially discovered in mouse submaxillary glands. Human epidermal growth factor was originally isolated from urine based on its ability to inhibit gastric secretion and called urogastrone. EPIDERMAL GROWTH FACTOR exerts a wide variety of biological effects including the promotion of proliferation and differentiation of mesenchymal and epithelial cells.

Costimulatory T-LYMPHOCYTE receptors that have specificity for CD80 ANTIGEN and CD86 ANTIGEN. Activation of this receptor results in increased T-cell proliferation, cytokine production and promotion of T-cell survival.

A short chain oxidoreductase that contains two N-terminal WW DOMAINS and functions as a tumor suppressor and in APOPTOSIS. It is also required for bone development.

A member of the prominin family, AC133 Antigen is a 5-transmembrane antigen occurring as several isoforms produced by alternative splicing which are processed into mature forms. In humans, it is expressed as a subset of CD34 (bright) human hematopoietic stem cells and CD34 positive leukemias. Functionally, it is associated with roles in cell differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. Specifically, it regulates the organization of apical plasma membrane in epithelial cells, disk morphogenesis during early retinal development, MAPK and Akt signaling pathways, and in cholesterol metabolism.
