Summary of "Placental inflammation, lifestyle, maternal and early child sensitization to allergens - the ALADDIN birth cohort."

To investigate; i) if maternal sensitization to allergens, and lifestyle can influence the risk of acute as well as chronic inflammation of the placenta, in the forms of chorioamnionitis and villitis, respectively, and ii) if these placental inflammations are associated with the outcome of sensitization for the child during preschool age.

Maternal allergen-specific IgG may protect the child against allergic sensitization.

The analysis of allergen-specific IgE responses in birth cohorts with micro-arrayed allergens has provided detailed information regarding the evolution of specific IgE responses in children. High reso...

Maternal concentrations of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and risk for cerebral palsy (CP) in the child. A case control study.

Intrauterine conditions may be important in the development of cerebral palsy in the child. The hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), is synthesized in the placenta, and hCG plays an important ...

Living in the city center is associated with type-1 sensitization to outdoor allergens in Leipzig, Germany.

Sensitization to type1 allergens with clinical manifestation of allergic rhinitis (AR) and/or allergic asthma has been associated with several host and environmental factors. It was shown that the pre...

Maternal high-fat diet reversal improves placental hemodynamics in a nonhuman primate model of diet-induced obesity.

In a Japanese macaque model of diet-induced obesity, we have previously demonstrated that consumption of a high-fat, "Western-style" diet (WSD) is associated with placental dysfunction and adverse pre...

Allergen content in German cockroach extracts and sensitization profiles to a new expanded set of cockroach allergens determine in vitro extract potency for IgE reactivity.

Cockroach allergens are an important cause of IgE-mediated sensitization in inner-city asthmatics. However, cockroach extracts used for diagnosis and immunotherapy are not standardized.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Exchange of substances between the maternal blood and the fetal blood at the PLACENTA via PLACENTAL CIRCULATION. The placental barrier excludes microbial or viral transmission.

A lectin that binds CHITIN, but lacks chitinase activity. It may be involved in tissue remodeling and cellular responses to the environment, including the response of type 2 HELPER T-CELLS to INFLAMMATION and sensitization to ALLERGENS. Mutations in the CHI3L1 gene are associated with ASTHMA.

A highly vascularized mammalian fetal-maternal organ and major site of transport of oxygen, nutrients, and fetal waste products. It includes a fetal portion (CHORIONIC VILLI) derived from TROPHOBLASTS and a maternal portion (DECIDUA) derived from the uterine ENDOMETRIUM. The placenta produces an array of steroid, protein and peptide hormones (PLACENTAL HORMONES).

An inflammation of the NASAL MUCOSA triggered by ALLERGENS.

Transmission of genetic characters, qualities, and traits, solely from maternal extra-nuclear elements such as MITOCHONDRIAL DNA or MATERNAL MESSENGER RNA.
