Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is not covered by current refugee screening protocols. After we had detected CE among several refugees attending our clinic from Afghanistan and the Middle East, serological...
Patients' and families' expectation that a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF) will be found is high. In other debilitating conditions, high expectation has been shown to drive a strong placebo response (PR...
Insulin secretion is insufficient in cystic fibrosis (CF), even before diabetes is present, though the mechanisms involved remain unclear. Acyl-ghrelin (AG) can diminish insulin secretion and is eleva...
Cytobacteriological examination of sputum and bacteriological sampling in the middle meatus.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease caused by mutation of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). The purpose of the study is to investigate the effects of miglust...
The long-term goal of this project is to examine the effects of cystic fibrosis (CF) and cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD) on brain structure and function
In order to further enable physiopathology studies, the aim of this project is to validate an in vitro model of cystic fibrosis created using induced pluripotent stemcell (iPS) differentia...
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of a new inhaled sodium-channel blocker called 552-02 in teens and adults with cystic fibrosis. 552-02 will be inhaled ...

An autosomal recessive genetic disease of the EXOCRINE GLANDS. It is caused by mutations in the gene encoding the CYSTIC FIBROSIS TRANSMEMBRANE CONDUCTANCE REGULATOR expressed in several organs including the LUNG, the PANCREAS, the BILIARY SYSTEM, and the SWEAT GLANDS. Cystic fibrosis is characterized by epithelial secretory dysfunction associated with ductal obstruction resulting in AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION; chronic RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS; PANCREATIC INSUFFICIENCY; maldigestion; salt depletion; and HEAT PROSTRATION.
A chloride channel that regulates secretion in many exocrine tissues. Abnormalities in the CFTR gene have been shown to cause cystic fibrosis. (Hum Genet 1994;93(4):364-8)
A strain of mice widely studied as a model for cystic fibrosis. These mice are generated from embryonic stem cells in which the CFTR (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator) gene is inactivated by gene targeting. As a result, all mice have one copy of this altered gene in all their tissues. Mice homozygous for the disrupted gene exhibit many features common to young cystic fibrosis patients, including failure to thrive, meconium ileus, and alteration of mucous and serous glands.
The countries of southwest Asia and northeastern Africa usually considered as extending from Libya on the west to Afghanistan on the east. (From Webster's New Geographical Dictionary, 1988)
