Effects of Repeated Intravenous Ketamine in Treatment-Resistant Geriatric Depression: A Case Series.

There is an immediate need for more sustainable, effective therapies for treatment-resistant depression in patients who do not respond to traditional psychopharmacology. The aim of this study was to d...

Efficacy of intravenous ketamine treatment in anxious versus nonanxious unipolar treatment-resistant depression.

To examine the effect of high baseline anxiety on response to ketamine versus midazolam (active placebo) in treatment-resistant depression (TRD).

Ineffectiveness of Repeated Intravenous Ketamine Infusions in Treatment-Resistant Depression After a Post-Ketamine Relapse: Time for a Rethink?

Repeat-dose ketamine augmentation for treatment-resistant depression with chronic suicidal ideation: A randomized, double blind, placebo controlled trial.

Several studies indicate that ketamine has rapid antidepressant effects in patients with treatment-resistant depression (TRD). The extent to which repeated doses of ketamine (versus placebo) reduce de...

Sex differences in response to ketamine as a rapidly acting intervention for treatment resistant depression.

While ketamine has been increasingly studied for treatment resistant depression (TRD), the impact of sex differences on treatment outcomes has not been well studied. The objective was to ascertain whe...

Clinical Trial of the Use of Ketamine in Treatment Resistant Depression

The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of the use of intravenous low-dose ketamine in the treatment of treatment-resistant depression (TRD), as well as the changes in Gluta...

Administration of Subanesthetic Dose of Ketamine and Electroconvulsive Treatment for Treatment Resistant Depression

In this proof of concept study, the investigators plan to administer iv ketamine interleaved with ECT days. Patients with treatment resistant depression who are deemed to be eligible for ...

D-cycloserine for Relapse Prevention Following Intravenous Ketamine in Treatment-resistant Depression

This is a two-stage experiment; the first stage is an open label trial in which participants receive six intravenous (IV) treatments of ketamine. The second stage includes participants tha...

Ketamine for Treatment Resistant Late-Life Depression

The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a single infusion of ketamine, to determine which dose is optimal and lasts the longest, and to learn about how ketamine works ...

ECT With Ketamine Anesthesia vs High Intensity Ketamine With ECT Rescue for Treatment-Resistant Depression

To determine if an high intensity ketamine with ECT rescue (HIKER) approach for treatment resistant depression will: 1) reduce patient suffering by hastening disease remission, 2) have few...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A cyclohexanone derivative used for induction of anesthesia. Its mechanism of action is not well understood, but ketamine can block NMDA receptors (RECEPTORS, N-METHYL-D-ASPARTATE) and may interact with sigma receptors.

An MAO inhibitor that is effective in the treatment of major depression, dysthymic disorder, and atypical depression. It also is useful in the treatment of panic disorder and the phobic disorders. (From AMA, Drug Evaluations Annual, 1994, p311)

A hallucinogen formerly used as a veterinary anesthetic, and briefly as a general anesthetic for humans. Phencyclidine is similar to KETAMINE in structure and in many of its effects. Like ketamine, it can produce a dissociative state. It exerts its pharmacological action through inhibition of NMDA receptors (RECEPTORS, N-METHYL-D-ASPARTATE). As a drug of abuse, it is known as PCP and Angel Dust.

Gases or volatile liquids that vary in the rate at which they induce anesthesia; potency; the degree of circulation, respiratory, or neuromuscular depression they produce; and analgesic effects. Inhalation anesthetics have advantages over intravenous agents in that the depth of anesthesia can be changed rapidly by altering the inhaled concentration. Because of their rapid elimination, any postoperative respiratory depression is of relatively short duration. (From AMA Drug Evaluations Annual, 1994, p173)

Decompression external to the body, most often the slow lessening of external pressure on the whole body (especially in caisson workers, deep sea divers, and persons who ascend to great heights) to prevent DECOMPRESSION SICKNESS. It includes also sudden accidental decompression, but not surgical (local) decompression or decompression applied through body openings.
