Summary of "Allergy may confer better survival on patients with gliomas."

Glioma susceptibility is inversely related to a history of allergies and atopy. Lung allergies are associated with 30% lower glioma susceptibility, compared to no lung allergies. Asthma and eczema also reduce the chance of glioma. However, the effect of allergy on glioma survival is not well characterized. Because of the allergy-glioma inverse relationship we examined the association of allergy with glioma survival in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

Prognostic role of microRNA-155 expression in gliomas: A meta-analysis.

Recent studies have reported that microRNA-155 (miR-155) is linked to the clinical outcomes of many tumors. However, its role in prognosis of gliomas remains unclear. This meta-analysis aims to evalua...

Using smaller-than-standard radiation treatment margins does not change survival outcomes in patients with high-grade gliomas.

The number of studies that evaluate treatment margins for high grade gliomas (HGG) are limited. We hypothesize that patients with HGG who are treated with a gross tumor volume (GTV) to planning tumor ...

A radiomic signature as a non-invasive predictor of progression-free survival in patients with lower-grade gliomas.

The aim of this study was to develop a radiomics signature for prediction of progression-free survival (PFS) in lower-grade gliomas and to investigate the genetic background behind the radiomics signa...

Photodynamic Therapy of Malignant Gliomas.

Recently, the clinical applications of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in the management of malignant brain tumors have attracted significant attention. Meta-analysis of the observational studies on this t...

Proton vs. Photon Radiation Therapy for Primary Gliomas: An Analysis of the National Cancer Data Base.

To investigate the impact of proton radiotherapy (PBT) on overall survival (OS) and evaluate PBT usage trends for patients with gliomas in the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB). Patients with a diagno...

Supratotal Resection for Gliomas Within Noneloquent Areas

Gliomas, especially high grade gliomas and diffuse low grade gliomas, are characterized by their infiltrative nature. Recently, a new conception of supratotal resection has been proposed. ...

Thalidomide and Temozolomide or Camptothecin-11 (CPT-11) in Patients With Gliomas

1.1 To determine the efficacy, as measured by 6 month progression-free survival, of therapy with thalidomide combined with CPT-11 in the treatment of patients with recurrent and/or progr...

Treatment With AZD4547 for Recurrent Malignant Glioma Expressing FGFR-TACC Gene Fusion"

The investigators will look for the presence of the fusion gene in all patients operated on for glioma. This search will be limited to all gliomas that show no IDH1 mutation, the latter be...

De-labeling of Patients With False Diagnosis of Penicillin Allergy

The purpose of this study is to estimate the prevalence of penicillin allergy, evaluate the diagnostic value of the allergologic work-up used in the study, and the health effects of penici...

Phase 2 Trial Using Talampanel in Patients With Recurrent High Grade Gliomas

To analyze the effect of Talampanel on progression free survival in patients with recurrent high grade gliomas.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

The survival of a graft in a host, the factors responsible for the survival and the changes occurring within the graft during growth in the host.

Continuance of life or existence especially under adverse conditions; includes methods and philosophy of survival.

A class of statistical procedures for estimating the survival function (function of time, starting with a population 100% well at a given time and providing the percentage of the population still well at later times). The survival analysis is then used for making inferences about the effects of treatments, prognostic factors, exposures, and other covariates on the function.

A glutamate antagonist (RECEPTORS, GLUTAMATE) used as an anticonvulsant (ANTICONVULSANTS) and to prolong the survival of patients with AMYOTROPHIC LATERAL SCLEROSIS.

A technique for the treatment of neoplasms, especially gliomas and melanomas in which boron-10, an isotope, is introduced into the target cells followed by irradiation with thermal neutrons.
