Shorter courses of APBI delivered as single-fraction intraoperative therapy are now offered as an alternative to 4-6 weeks of whole breast irradiation after lumpectomy; however, there are potential patient selection, dosimetric, target volume definition, radiobiological, and logistical shortcomings of this approach. We designed a prospective phase II multi-institution clinical trial to study 2 or 3 day APBI delivered with brachytherapy applicators.

Hypofractionated whole breast irradiation (HWBI) and accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) represent two adjuvant radiation therapy options following breast conserving surgery. We performed a ...
To prospectively characterize toxicity and cosmesis after accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) with 3D conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) or single-entry multilumen intracavitary brachytherapy.
Background The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare four different external beam radiotherapy techniques of accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) considering target coverage, dose to o...
The Breast Cancer Group of the Japanese Radiation Oncology Study Group conducted a nationwide questionnaire survey on the clinical practice of postoperative radiotherapy for breast-conserving treatmen...
To report early adverse events and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) of 3-fraction intracavitary catheter-based partial breast brachytherapy (ICBB).
The investigators proposed approach allows them to deliver a low total dose of radiation to patients with low-risk, early-stage breast cancer which would further minimize the impact of adj...
Hypothesis: In selected women with node-negative invasive breast cancer treated with breast conserving surgery, postoperative accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) limited to the ...
This is an open label phase II study to determine the safety and efficacy of a novel 3 fraction daily dosing regimen for accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) for early invasive an...
This study is to compare radiation toxicity of accelerated partial breast irradiation (ABPI) with whole breast irradiation (WBI) in low-risk breast cancer.
This is a randomized phase III trial in women with invasive carcinoma of the breast with negative axillary nodes treated by Breast Conserving Surgery (BCS). Eligible, patients will be rand...
Irradiation of one half or both halves of the body in the treatment of disseminated cancer or widespread metastases. It is used to treat diffuse metastases in one session as opposed to multiple fields over an extended period. The more frequent treatment modalities are upper hemibody irradiation (UHBI) or lower hemibody irradiation (LHBI). Less common is mid-body irradiation (MBI). In the treatment of both halves of the body sequentially, hemibody irradiation permits radiotherapy of the whole body with larger doses of radiation than could be accomplished with WHOLE-BODY IRRADIATION. It is sometimes called "systemic" hemibody irradiation with reference to its use in widespread cancer or metastases. (P. Rubin et al. Cancer, Vol 55, p2210, 1985)
A fluid-filled closed cavity or sac that is lined by an EPITHELIUM and found in the BREAST. It may appear as a single large cyst in one breast, multifocal, or bilateral in FIBROCYSTIC BREAST DISEASE.
A common and benign breast disease characterized by varying degree of fibrocystic changes in the breast tissue. There are three major patterns of morphological changes, including FIBROSIS, formation of CYSTS, and proliferation of glandular tissue (adenosis). The fibrocystic breast has a dense irregular, lumpy, bumpy consistency.
Abnormal accumulation of lymph in the arm, shoulder and breast area associated with surgical or radiation breast cancer treatments (e.g., MASTECTOMY).
External or interstitial irradiation to treat lymphomas (e.g., Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas) and lymph node metastases and also some autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
