07:00 EST 24th January 2019 | BioPortfolio

Summary of "Randomized Delayed-Start Trial of Levodopa in Parkinson's Disease."

Levodopa is the main treatment for symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Determining whether levodopa also has a disease-modifying effect could provide guidance as to when in the course of the disease the treatment with this drug should be initiated.

When to Start Levodopa Therapy for Parkinson's Disease.

Gut bacterial tyrosine decarboxylases restrict levels of levodopa in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Human gut microbiota senses its environment and responds by releasing metabolites, some of which are key regulators of human health and disease. In this study, we characterize gut-associated bacteria ...

Sensor-based algorithmic dosing suggestions for oral administration of levodopa/carbidopa microtablets for Parkinson's disease: a first experience.

Dosing schedules for oral levodopa in advanced stages of Parkinson's disease (PD) require careful tailoring to fit the needs of each patient. This study proposes a dosing algorithm for oral administra...

Mucuna Pruriens Combined with Carbidopa in Parkinson's Disease: A Case Report.

We present a 48-year-old woman with Parkinson's disease in whom carbidopa was added to Mucuna pruriens, resulting in marked motor improvement (documented on video and using MDS-UPDRS motor scores). Th...

Long-term safety and efficacy of adjunctive rasagiline in levodopa-treated Japanese patients with Parkinson's disease.

Rasagiline is a monoamine oxidase type-B inhibitor in development in Japan for Parkinson's disease (PD). This open-label study evaluated the long-term safety and efficacy of rasagiline in Japanese pat...

Intravenous Levodopa for the Diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease

Patients with Parkinson's disease have low levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine is responsible for motor function and normal physical activity. Patients with Parkinson's dise...

Carbidopa/Levodopa/Entacapone Versus Immediate Release (IR) Carbidopa/Levodopa on Non-Motor Symptoms in Patients With Idiopathic Parkinson's Disease

The purpose of this study is to test the effects of carbidopa/levodopa/entacapone compared to the effects of immediate-release carbidopa/levodopa on end-of-dose wearing off in persons who ...

A Study to Evaluate Fixed Dose Carbidopa/Levodopa/Entacapone Versus Immediate Release Carbidopa/Levodopa

The purpose of this study is to achieve approval for the use of carbidopa/levodopa/entacapone in early Parkinson's disease (PD) by demonstrating that when used as initial levodopa therapy ...

Effects of Lingzhi on Disease Progression in Patients With Untreated Early Parkinson's Disease

Lingzhi(Ganoderma) is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. Previous studies indicated that Lingzhi was safe, well tolorated, and improved symptoms as an add-on therapy to levodopa ...

Expectation and Response to Levodopa and Acupuncture in Parkinson's Disease

To investigate how levodopa and acupuncture affect fatigue and muscle function in people who suffer from Parkinson's disease. Subjects may choose to participate in levodopa or acupuncture ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

An inhibitor of DOPA DECARBOXYLASE, preventing conversion of LEVODOPA to dopamine. It is used in PARKINSON DISEASE to reduce peripheral adverse effects of LEVODOPA. It has no antiparkinson actions by itself.

A selective, irreversible inhibitor of Type B monoamine oxidase. It is used in newly diagnosed patients with Parkinson's disease. It may slow progression of the clinical disease and delay the requirement for levodopa therapy. It also may be given with levodopa upon onset of disability. (From AMA Drug Evaluations Annual, 1994, p385) The compound without isomeric designation is Deprenyl.

Work consisting of a clinical trial that involves at least one test treatment and one control treatment, concurrent enrollment and follow-up of the test- and control-treated groups, and in which the treatments to be administered are selected by a random process, such as the use of a random-numbers table.

Work consisting of a clinical trial involving one or more test treatments, at least one control treatment, specified outcome measures for evaluating the studied intervention, and a bias-free method for assigning patients to the test treatment. The treatment may be drugs, devices, or procedures studied for diagnostic, therapeutic, or prophylactic effectiveness. Control measures include placebos, active medicine, no-treatment, dosage forms and regimens, historical comparisons, etc. When randomization using mathematical techniques, such as the use of a random numbers table, is employed to assign patients to test or control treatments, the trial is characterized as a RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL.

Works about randomized clinical trials that compare interventions in clinical settings and which look at a range of effectiveness outcomes and impacts.
