Summary of "Selective MMP Inhibition, Using AZD3342, to Reduce Gastrointestinal Toxicity and Enhance Chemoefficacy in a Rat Model."

The common cytotoxic mechanisms that underpin chemoefficacy and toxicity have hampered efforts to deliver effective supportive care interventions, particularly for gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) have been implicated in both tumor growth and GI toxicity, and as such MMP inhibitors present as a novel therapeutic avenue to simultaneously enhance treatment efficacy and reduce toxicity.

Bovine Colostrum Against Chemotherapy-Induced Gastrointestinal Toxicity in Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial.

The toxic effect of chemotherapy on the gastrointestinal tract may lead to mucositis and is associated with the pathogenesis of other treatment-related complications. We hypothesized that nutrition su...

Size-dependent effects of polystyrene microplastics on cytotoxicity and efflux pump inhibition in human Caco-2 cells.

Microplastics in the environment may gain entry the human gastrointestinal tract through the food chain. However, information on different adverse effects of microplastics at nanometer or micrometer s...

A UGT1A1 genotype-guided dosing study of modified FOLFIRINOX in previously untreated patients with advanced gastrointestinal malignancies.

FOLFIRINOX (5-fluorouracil [5-FU], leucovorin, irinotecan, oxaliplatin) is an effective but toxic therapy for pancreatic cancer. UGT1A1 (UDP glucuronosyltransferase 1A1) eliminates the active metaboli...

Notch pathway inhibition with LY3039478 in soft tissue sarcoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumours.

LY3039478 is an orally bioavailable selective Notch inhibitor. This phase 1a/b trial evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics and antitumour activity of LY3039478 in patients with soft tissue sarcoma (...

Joint toxicity of microplastics with triclosan to marine microalgae Skeletonema costatum.

Toxicity of single microplastics on organisms has been reported widely, however, their joint toxicity with other contaminants on phytoplankton is rarely investigated. Here, we studied the toxicity of ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

An RNA polymerase II transcriptional inhibitor. This compound terminates transcription prematurely by selective inhibition of RNA synthesis. It is used in research to study underlying mechanisms of cellular regulation.

A glycoside of a kaurene type diterpene that is found in some plants including Atractylis gummifera (ATRACTYLIS); COFFEE; XANTHIUM, and CALLILEPIS. Toxicity is due to inhibition of ADENINE NUCLEOTIDE TRANSLOCASE.

Pollution prevention through the design of effective chemical products that have low or no toxicity and use of chemical processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.

A muscarinic antagonist used as an antispasmodic, in some disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, and to reduce salivation with some anesthetics.

The N-acetyl derivative of CYSTEINE. It is used as a mucolytic agent to reduce the viscosity of mucous secretions. It has also been shown to have antiviral effects in patients with HIV due to inhibition of viral stimulation by reactive oxygen intermediates.
