Platinum-based chemotherapy remains the standard treatment for patients with small cell lung cancer (SCLC), but the benefit of the treatment is often hampered by rapid development of drug resistance. Thus far, there is no targeted therapy available for SCLC. Over 90% of SCLC tumors harbor mutations in the tumor suppressor gene p53, an important DNA damage checkpoint regulator, and these tumor cells rely predominantly on the checkpoint kinases to control DNA damage response.

Clinical and epidemiological studies show that docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA) exert multiple effects on ovarian cancer. While DHA seems to inhibit growth and prevent carcinogenic...
Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive malignant tumor in which cisplatin therapy is commonly used, although its effectiveness is limited. It follows that research efforts dedicated to ...
Neuroblastoma (NB) is a type of solid extracranial tumor that usually occurs in babies and children. Chemotherapy is a common method for NB treatment, however, the drug resistance exerts during the ch...
In this issue of Cancer Cell, Jin and colleagues use a kinome-wide screen to identify MAST1 as a cause of cisplatin resistance. They demonstrate that this kinase is a novel activator of MEK1 and the M...
A Pt(IV) prodrug of cisplatin containing a glutathione s-transferase (GSTs) inhibitor 6-(7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-ylthio)hexanol (NBDHEX), complex 1, was designed and studied aiming to overcome c...
The general aim is to compare the cumulative dose of cisplatin administered concomitantly with radiotherapy in reference arm A (cisplatin 100 mg / m2 day 1 every 21 days) and in the experi...
The current standard for recurrent, persistent or metastatic cervical cancer is palliative chemotherapy with cisplatin topotecan, however, the results need to be improved. Epigenetic aberr...
Concurrent chemoradiation (CCRT) is the standard therapy for locally advanced cervical cancer. However, the most effective chemotherapy regimen is controversial. Weekly cisplatin, h...
To describe the clinical response rate in two groups (Docetaxel plus cisplatin plus 5-FU, versus Cisplatin plus 5-FU) after 3 cycle of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
The purpose of this research study is to find the answers to the following questions: 1. What are the highest doses of CBP501 and cisplatin that can be safely administered as conse...
An inorganic and water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts with DNA to produce both intra and interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity of cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in the G2 phase of the cell cycle.
A competitive serotonin type 3 receptor antagonist. It is effective in the treatment of nausea and vomiting caused by cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs, including cisplatin, and has reported anxiolytic and neuroleptic properties.
A synthetic analog of natural prostaglandin E1. It produces a dose-related inhibition of gastric acid and pepsin secretion, and enhances mucosal resistance to injury. It is an effective anti-ulcer agent and also has oxytocic properties.
Organic cation transporter consisting of twelve transmembrane domains and expressed primarily in the kidney. It transports a wide range of metabolites, drugs, and neurotransmitters from the blood to the KIDNEY TUBULES, including DOPAMINE; SEROTONIN; CHOLINE; and CISPLATIN.
A serine/threonine-specific protein kinase which is encoded by the CHEK1 gene in humans. Checkpoint kinase 1 (also known as Chk1) coordinates DNA damage response and cell cycle checkpoint response. Under these conditions, activation of Chk1 results in the initiation of cell cycle checkpoints, cell cycle arrest, DNA repair and cell death, to prevent damaged cells from progressing through the cell cycle.
Lung cancer is the uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. Originating in the lungs, this growth may invade adjacent tissues and infiltrate beyond the lungs. Lung cancer, the most common cause of cancer-related death in men and women, is respons...
