Asians (including Chinese, Japanese and Koreans), who generally have a relatively smaller body size and a lower mean body mass index (BMI), have a relatively higher risk of developing android-type obesity than westerners. Substitution of alanine for threonine (Ala54Thr) on the FABP2 gene (rs 1799883) is related to insulin resistance and obesity. However, few studies have examined this substitution in Koreans, and the number of Korean subjects in those studies is limited. For this reason, we investigated the differences between the FABP2 Ala54Thr polymorphism and obesity, hemodynamic variables, blood lipid profile results, and insulin resistance among middle-aged Korean women with abdominal obesity.

Metabolic syndrome is characterized by obesity, hyperglycemia, hypertension, insulin resistance, and dyslipidemia. Metabolic syndrome is associated with osteoarthritis (OA), but it is unclear if the a...
At present obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in India are the most challenging health problems. It is also well accepted that obesity is a significant risk factor for the development of metabolic ...
Ethnic variations have been reported in allelic frequencies of the leptin receptor gene (LEPR) with population-specific effects. We aimed to explore the association of LEPR polymorphisms with obesity,...
Introduction: All components of the metabolic syndrome (MS) are the risk factors for the cardiovascular diseases, and their combination a great deal accelerates and complicates development of the dise...
There are reports that the gene (rs1800629) can be involved in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome through an increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Therefore, we have decided to sear...

Few patients who have major risk factors develop Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). The heritable determinants might be the reason. The multicenter study is to investigate the ass...
The metabolic syndrome is a highly prevalent disorder, which causes atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and is closely associated with insulin resistance. The alteration of the secretio...
Obesity is considered as the epidemic of the century. Central obesity is one of the metabolic syndrome's features. It has been proven that obesity can cause back pain and headaches; thus, ...
Metabolic syndrome is directly related to obesity. This study investigated the use of a plant based formulation to improve on the condition of people with metabolic syndrome.
A condition of having excess fat in the abdomen. Abdominal obesity is typically defined as waist circumferences of 40 inches or more in men and 35 inches or more in women. Abdominal obesity raises the risk of developing disorders, such as diabetes, hypertension and METABOLIC SYNDROME X.
A cluster of symptoms that are risk factors for CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES and TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS. The major components of metabolic syndrome include ABDOMINAL OBESITY; atherogenic DYSLIPIDEMIA; HYPERTENSION; HYPERGLYCEMIA; INSULIN RESISTANCE; a proinflammatory state; and a prothrombotic (THROMBOSIS) state.
The effects on gene expression that depend on the location of a gene with respect to its neighboring genes and region of chromosome. Stable position effects are sequence dependent. Variegated position effects depend on whether the gene is located in or adjacent to HETEROCHROMATIN or EUCHROMATIN.
A cluster of metabolic risk factors for CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES and TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS. The major components of metabolic syndrome X include excess ABDOMINAL FAT; atherogenic DYSLIPIDEMIA; HYPERTENSION; HYPERGLYCEMIA; INSULIN RESISTANCE; a proinflammatory state; and a prothrombotic (THROMBOSIS) state. Specific effects of drugs and substances on metabolic pathways such as those occurring through the CYTOCHROME P-450 ENZYME SYSTEM. These include effects that often result in DRUG INTERACTIONS; FOOD-DRUG INTERACTIONS; and HERB-DRUG INTERACTIONS.
Bioinformatics is the application of computer software and hardware to the management of biological data to create useful information. Computers are used to gather, store, analyze and integrate biological and genetic information which can then be applied...
Obesity is the condition in which excess fat has accumulated in the body (mostly in subcutaneous tissues). clinical obesity is considered to be present when a person has a BMI of over 30 (Oxford Dictionary of Medicine). It is becoming increasing common i...
