Impact of summer heat on mortality and years of life lost: Application of a novel indicator of daily excess hourly heat.

Previous studies have widely assessed heat-mortality relationships across global regions, while the epidemiological evidence regarding the heat effect on years of life lost (YLL) is relatively sparse....

Geographic, Demographic, and Temporal Variations in the Association between Heat Exposure and Hospitalization in Brazil: A Nationwide Study between 2000 and 2015.

Limited evidence is available regarding the association between heat exposure and morbidity in Brazil and how the effect of heat exposure on health outcomes may change over time.

Are Recommended Heat Stroke Treatments Adequate for Australian Workers?

Workers that combine physical exertion with exposure to hot conditions are susceptible to heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke. Despite recognition of cold water immersion as the heat stroke ...

Reforming the debate around radiation risk.

The back-and-forth debate on radiation risk, in the recent years, has unscientifically drifted away from proportionality and become increasingly antagonistic. A handful of authors have used exaggerate...

Application of evidence-based recommendations for heat acclimation: Individual and team sport perspectives.

Heat acclimation or acclimatization (HA) occurs with repeated exposure to heat inducing adaptations that enhance thermoregulatory mechanisms and heat tolerance leading to improved exercise performance...

CKDu in Sugarcane Workers in Guatemala

The objective of this research project is to investigate specific behaviors and exposures related to sugarcane work and their association with non-communicable diseases, specifically Chron...

The Impact of Heat Acclimation on Pro- and Anti- Inflammatory Cytokine Response

There is growing evidence to conclude that part of the cascade leading to heatstroke is related to an inflammatory reaction triggered by the heat stress. The reduced ability to sustain hea...

Impact of Thermal Stress on Pulmonary Absorption and Toxicokinetics of 3 Organic Solvents

In Quebec, thousands of workers are concomitantly exposed to heat and chemical compounds. Exposure to heat induces physiological responses that help maintaining a stable body temperature. ...

Heat Emergency Awareness and Treatment (HEAT)

Investigators propose an intervention trial of a comprehensive education and treatment bundle designed to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with heat-related illness for low resour...

A Study on the Use of the MMF07 Foot Massager and Heat Therapy Treatments for Restless Leg Syndrome

The purpose of this study is to assess whether the MMF07 Foot Massager and/ or heat therapy may improve symptoms of restless legs syndrome (RLS). It will also assess the effect of the MMF0...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Heat and cold stress-inducible, transcription factors that bind to inverted 5'-NGAAN-3' pentamer DNA sequences and are regulated by poly(ADP) ribosylation. They play essential roles as transcriptional activators of the HEAT-SHOCK RESPONSE by inducing expression of large classes of MOLECULAR CHAPERONES and heat-shock proteins. They also function in DNA REPAIR; transcriptional reactivation of latent HIV-1; and pre-mRNA processing and nuclear export of HSP70 HEAT-SHOCK PROTEINS during heat stress.

A preconceived judgment made without adequate evidence and not easily alterable by presentation of contrary evidence.

A family of heat-shock proteins that contain a 70 amino-acid consensus sequence known as the J domain. The J domain of HSP40 heat shock proteins interacts with HSP70 HEAT-SHOCK PROTEINS. HSP40 heat-shock proteins play a role in regulating the ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATASES activity of HSP70 heat-shock proteins.

A condition caused by the failure of body to dissipate heat in an excessively hot environment or during PHYSICAL EXERTION in a hot environment. Contrast to HEAT EXHAUSTION, the body temperature in heat stroke patient is dangerously high with red, hot skin accompanied by DELUSIONS; CONVULSIONS; or COMA. It can be a life-threatening emergency and is most common in infants and the elderly.
