Outcomes of Noninvasive Ventilation in Obese Patients With Acute Asthma Exacerbations.

The role of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) in acute asthma exacerbation is controversial. However, the outcome of NIPPV in obese patients with asthma during such exacerbation has no...

Delayed kinetics of phagocytosis related respiratory burst in blood is a distinctive feature of moderate exacerbation of bronchial asthma.

Atopic bronchial asthma based on allergy history and chronic inflammation is hazardous to patients due to the risk of exacerbation. The sign of severe exacerbation is considered an abundant number and...

Interrater Reliability of Ultrasound in the Diagnosis of Sialolithiasis.

The aim of this study was to assess the interrater reliability of ultrasound for diagnosing sialolithiasis.

Mechanisms and Management of Asthma Exacerbations.

Acute asthma remains an important medical emergency, the most frequent cause of acute admissions in children and a major source of morbidity for adults with asthma. In all ages with asthma the presenc...

LA phonospirometry technique compared to pediatric respiratory assessment measure and peak expiratory flow measurement as a novel technique to assess the severity of an asthma exacerbation.

Asthma is a common chronic disease treated in emergency departments. The measurements of Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) and Pediatric Respiratory Assessment Measure (PRAM) scores have been recommended as ...

Interrater Reliability of Infant Motor Profile

The aim of this study is to assess risky infants (or diagnosed infants) with Infant Motor Profile, and analyze interrater and intrarater reliability of this test.

Acute Montelukast in Asthma

Patients presenting to hospital with an acute asthma exacerbation severe enough to require admission would receive full standard treatment according to British Thoracic Society guidelines ...

Study Evaluating the Safety and Effects of MN-221 in Subjects Experiencing an Acute Exacerbation of Asthma

The objective of this clinical study is to examine the safety and effectiveness of intravenous MN-221 compared to placebo when administered as an adjunct to standard therapy in subjects ex...

Faculty Development to Improve Mini-CEX Ratings

We will conduct a faculty development workshop with intent to improve interrater reliability and rater accuracy. Outcomes will include interrater reliability, accuracy, and workshop evalua...

Asthma Breath Biomarker Assessment

This study aims to assess the feasibility of capturing data on exhaled breath compounds during an acute asthma exacerbation. In addition to assessing the feasibility of such a study the in...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A severity of disease classification system designed to measure the severity of disease for patients aged 15 and over admitted to intensive care units.

Asthma attacks following a period of exercise. Usually the induced attack is short-lived and regresses spontaneously. The magnitude of postexertional airway obstruction is strongly influenced by the environment in which exercise is performed (i.e. inhalation of cold air during physical exertion markedly augments the severity of the airway obstruction; conversely, warm humid air blunts or abolishes it).

Predicting the time of OVULATION can be achieved by measuring the preovulatory elevation of ESTRADIOL; LUTEINIZING HORMONE or other hormones in BLOOD or URINE. Accuracy of ovulation prediction depends on the completeness of the hormone profiles, and the ability to determine the preovulatory LH peak.

An anti-IgE, recombinant, humanized monoclonal antibody which specifically binds to the C epsilon3 domain of IMMUNOGLOBULIN E, the site of high-affinity IgE receptor binding. It inhibits the binding of IgE to MAST CELLS and BASOPHILS to reduce the severity of the allergic response and is used in the management of persistent allergic ASTHMA.

A progressive, malignant disease of the blood-forming organs, characterized by distorted proliferation and development of leukocytes and their precursors in the blood and bone marrow. Leukemias were originally termed acute or chronic based on life expectancy but now are classified according to cellular maturity. Acute leukemias consist of predominately immature cells; chronic leukemias are composed of more mature cells. (From The Merck Manual, 2006)
