Draft Genome Sequences of Proteus mirabilis K1609 and K670: A Model Strains for Territoriality Examination.

Proteus mirabilis is a pathogenic Gram-negative bacterium characterized by its ability to swarm across surfaces, which frequently leads to colonization of the urinary tract and causes severe infection...

High-Quality Draft Genome Sequences of Crenobacter cavernae Strain CAVE-375 and Oxalobacteriaceae sp. Strain CAVE-383, Two Bacteria Isolated from Dripping Water in a Karstic Cave in Portugal.

CAVE-375 and sp. strain CAVE-383, two Gram-negative bacteria, were isolated during the first microbiology survey performed in a karst cave in Portugal. We report here the release of their high-qualit...

Epilithic Biofilms in Lake Baikal: Screening and Diversity of PKS and NRPS Genes in the Genomes of Heterotrophic Bacteria.

A collection of heterotrophic bacteria consisting of 167 strains was obtained from microbial communities of biofilms formed on solid substrates in the littoral zone of Lake Baikal. Based on the analys...

Draft Genome Sequences of 27 Salmonella enterica Serovar Schwarzengrund Isolates from Clinical Sources.

Twenty-seven serovar Schwarzengrund isolates from clinical sources were sequenced as part of a larger study to examine phenotypic and genotypic characteristics. The majority of the sequenced strains ...

Germinal Transmission After Endogenization of HIV Sequences Without a Competent Virus for Replication and a Potential Protective Role

It is necessary to better understand the transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) genome sequences by gametes without replication-competent virus transmission. In fact, HIV endog...

Description of the Pathogenicity and Incriminated Modes of Contamination of Neonatal Bacillus Species Sepsis.

Bacillus species are ubiquitous gram-positive spore-forming organisms. They rarely cause disease in the immunocompetent and are more frequently isolated as a culture contaminant. However, ...

Study of Probiotic Potential of Lactobacillus Strains in the Upper Respiratory Tract After Nasal Spray Application

Probiotics are defined as "live micro-organisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host" (Hill et al, 2014). These microbes are generally applied i...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A species of Paenibacillus formerly classified as Bacillus polymyxa that occurs in marine sediments and soil, especially around plant roots and RHIZOMES where it performs NITROGEN FIXATION. It has activity against several species of pathogenic bacteria and produces POLYMYXINS.

A species of Bacillus that occurs in soil and is frequently found on bird feathers. Some strains cause FOODBORNE DISEASE, whereas other strains produce ANTIFUNGAL AGENTS and ANTIBACTERIAL AGENTS and function as PROBIOTICS. This species can also produce enzymes for industrial applications.

A metalloproteinase which degrades helical regions of native collagen to small fragments. Preferred cleavage is -Gly in the sequence -Pro-Xaa-Gly-Pro-. Six forms (or 2 classes) have been isolated from Clostridium histolyticum that are immunologically cross-reactive but possess different sequences and different specificities. Other variants have been isolated from Bacillus cereus, Empedobacter collagenolyticum, Pseudomonas marinoglutinosa, and species of Vibrio and Streptomyces. EC 3.4.24.3.

A species of Bacillus that occurs in soil and marine sediments. Many strains are alkalophilic and able to metabolize HEAVY METALS; it may therefore be a useful species for ENVIRONMENTAL BIODEGRADATION.

A species of Paenibacillus that causes American Foulbrood, a fatal disease of honeybees (APIS) and honeybee colonies.
