The incidence rates of melanoma have risen to worrying levels over the last decade. Delayed diagnosis, due to faults on the detection stage, indicate the necessity of new aiding diagnosis techniques. Since metabolic activity is highly connected to neoplasia formation, a detection technique that focus its results on vascular responses, as IRT, seems to be a viable option.

The histopathological differentiation of melanocytic nevi from malignant melanoma (MM) is based on well-known criteria, and is straightforward in the vast majority of cases. However, there are few cas...
In several solid tumors, an increased stathmin expression is associated with both poor prognosis and resistance to certain chemotherapy types. However, the data regarding melanocytic lesions are very ...
The diagnosis of melanocytic tumors is notoriously difficult and represents one of the most challenging areas in surgical pathology associated with significant risk for litigation. One reason is the w...
The benign melanocytic nevus is the commonest tumor in humans and rarely transforms into cutaneous melanoma. Elucidation of the nevus genome is required to better understand the molecular steps of pro...
Birthmarks are common in the healthy population and are generally harmless. Certain presentations, however, raise concern for associated syndromes or potential complications. It is important for pedia...
This project is a multicenter study in which we will investigate a dual concept of nevogenesis that have been raised recently by our group. Study location is the Department of Dermatology ...
The objective of this protocol is to further elucidate the genetic mutations that drive melanocytic nevi (benign melanocytic neoplasms, moles). This will be performed by whole genome, whol...
RATIONALE: Collecting and storing tissue samples from patients with melanocytic nevi or pigmented lesions to study in the laboratory may help doctors learn more about the development of me...
In vivo confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) offers the possibility to non-invasively investigate skin lesions at nearly histologic resolution. A recent study showed a high sensitivit...
This research study is designed to better understand the role of genetics, sun-exposure and phenotypic factors in melanoma.
A collective term for the various types of nevi and melanomas.
Tumors of the choroid; most common intraocular tumors are malignant melanomas of the choroid. These usually occur after puberty and increase in incidence with advancing age. Most malignant melanomas of the uveal tract develop from benign melanomas (nevi).
Clinically atypical nevi (usually exceeding 5 mm in diameter and having variable pigmentation and ill defined borders) with an increased risk for development of non-familial cutaneous malignant melanoma. Biopsies show melanocytic dysplasia. Nevi are clinically and histologically identical to the precursor lesions for melanoma in the B-K mole syndrome. (Stedman, 25th ed)
Systematic study of the body and the use of its static and dynamic position as a means of communication.
A type of strength-building exercise program that requires the body muscle to exert a force against some form of resistance, such as weight, stretch bands, water, or immovable objects. Resistance exercise is a combination of static and dynamic contractions involving shortening and lengthening of skeletal muscles.

Blood is a specialized bodily fluid that delivers necessary substances to the body's cells (in animals) – such as nutrients and oxygen – and transports waste products away from those same cells. In vertebrates, it is composed of blo...
