ID Proteins May Reduce Aggressiveness of Thyroid Tumors.

ID genes have an important function in the cell cycle, and ID proteins may help identify aggressive tumors, besides being considered promising therapeutic targets. However, their role in thyroid tumor...

Comprehensive transcriptomic and genomic profiling of subtypes of follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma.

Among subtypes of follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma (FVPTC), encapsulated FVPTC (EFVPTC) shows more indolent behavior than infiltrative FVPTC (IFVPTC). In particular, non-invasive EFVP...

Follicular thyroid carcinoma metastatic to skin: a small papule and a big diagnostic change.

Cutaneous metastases are uncommon in daily practice, although very important, since they may be the first manifestation of an undiscovered primary neoplasm or the first indication of recurrence. Cutan...

A Cardiac Metastasis of Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma With Partly Squamous Cell Differentiation: Detection in FDG-PET Preceded Visibility on Echocardiography and MRI by More Than a Year.

PET using the radiotracer F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) was performed in a patient who presented with elevated thyroglobulin (Tg) levels several years after initial therapy of follicular thyroid carcinom...

Modified Transverse-Vertical Gross Examination: a Better Method for the Detection of Definite Capsular Invasion in Encapsulated Follicular-Patterned Thyroid Neoplasms.

The diagnosis of encapsulated follicular-patterned thyroid carcinoma (EFPTC) is challenging, and the detection of capsular invasion and/or vascular invasion is essential in distinguishing benign lesio...

Comparison DW-MRI vs FDG PET/CT in the Detection of Early Recurrence of Cervical Well-differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the concordance between the 18F-PET/CT under thyrotropin stimulation and the diffusion-weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging, in the detection of resi...

Proteomics of Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma

Thyroid carcinoma is the common endocrine system malignant neoplasm. At present it has become the malignant neoplasm of fastest growing incidence rate. More than 85% thyroid carcinoma is p...

Sorafenib Phase II Study for Japanese Anaplastic or Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma Patients

The objectives of this study are to evaluate safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetics of sorafenib for the treatment of Japanese patients with anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) or locally ad...

Study of Sulfatinib in Treating Advanced Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma and Iodine-refractory Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma

A multi-center , opened, Phase II study to assess the efficacy and safety of Sulfatinib 300 mg Sulfatinib in advanced Medullary Thyroid Carcinoma ( MTC) and iodine-refractory differentiate...

Feasibility of Endoscopic Thyroidectomy for Thyroid Carcinoma

Endoscopic thyroidectomy has been used to treat thyroid diseases in China. However, whether this technique is rational to treat thyroid carcinoma is still in controversy. The diagnosis of ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

An aggressive THYROID GLAND malignancy which generally occurs in IODINE-deficient areas in people with previous thyroid pathology such as GOITER. It is associated with CELL DEDIFFERENTIATION of THYROID CARCINOMA (e.g., FOLLICULAR THYROID CARCINOMA; PAPILLARY THYROID CANCER). Typical initial presentation is a rapidly growing neck mass which upon metastasis is associated with DYSPHAGIA; NECK PAIN; bone pain; DYSPNEA; and NEUROLOGIC DEFICITS.

A thyroid neoplasm of mixed papillary and follicular arrangement. Its biological behavior and prognosis is the same as that of a papillary adenocarcinoma of the thyroid. (From DeVita Jr et al., Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology, 3d ed, p1271)

A disease of the pilosebaceous unit, presenting clinically as grouped follicular papules or plaques with associated hair loss. It is caused by mucinous infiltration of tissues, and usually involving the scalp, face, and neck. It may be primary (idiopathic) or secondary to mycosis fungoides or reticulosis.

A heterogeneous group of immunocompetent cells that mediate the cellular immune response by processing and presenting antigens to the T-cells. Traditional antigen-presenting cells include MACROPHAGES; DENDRITIC CELLS; LANGERHANS CELLS; and B-LYMPHOCYTES. FOLLICULAR DENDRITIC CELLS are not traditional antigen-presenting cells, but because they hold antigen on their cell surface in the form of IMMUNE COMPLEXES for B-cell recognition they are considered so by some authors.

A carcinoma composed mainly of epithelial elements with little or no stroma. Medullary carcinomas of the breast constitute 5%-7% of all mammary carcinomas; medullary carcinomas of the thyroid comprise 3%-10% of all thyroid malignancies. (From Dorland, 27th ed; DeVita Jr et al., Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology, 3d ed, p1141; Segen, Dictionary of Modern Medicine, 1992)
