Effects of intrathecal verapamil on cerebral vasopasm in experimental rat study.

Summary of "Effects of intrathecal verapamil on cerebral vasopasm in experimental rat study."

Verapamil-a calcium-channel blocker-has shown promising results on cerebral vasospasm. However, it has not yet been accepted for the treatment or prevention purposes because of the associated side-effects. Although effective results of nimodipine and nicardipine's intrathecal administration are well-known, intrathecal verapamil has not been considered earlier. We used an experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage induced vasospasm model for the evaluation of vasodilator and neuroprotective effects of intrathecal verapamil.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

The experimental study of the relationship between the genotype of an organism and its behavior. The scope includes the effects of genes on simple sensory processes to complex organization of the nervous system.

Physical manipulation of animals and humans to induce a behavioral or other psychological reaction. In experimental psychology, the animal is handled to induce a stress situation or to study the effects of "gentling" or "mothering".

Experimental animal models for human AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM. They include GUILLAIN-BARRE SYNDROME (see NEURITIS, AUTOIMMUNE, EXPERIMENTAL); MYASTHENIA GRAVIS (see MYASTHENIA GRAVIS, AUTOIMMUNE, EXPERIMENTAL); and MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (see ENCEPHALOMYELITIS, AUTOIMMUNE, EXPERIMENTAL).

Groups that serve as a standard for comparison in experimental studies. They are similar in relevant characteristics to the experimental group but do not receive the experimental intervention.

The experimental joining of two individuals for the purpose of studying the effects of one on the other.
