Although surgical removal is the treatment of choice in Bowen's disease (BD), there are cases in which by age, comorbidities, use of anticoagulants, location, cosmetic result, or size, it is preferable to use other alternative treatments such as cryotherapy, 5-fluorouracil cream, imiquimod 5% cream or photodynamic therapy (PDT). Efficacy of PDT in BD is supported by substantial research and clinical data.

Name: Photodiagnosis and photodynamic therapy
Photodynamic treatment with methyl aminolevulinate (MAL-PDT) is considered an effective and highly recommended treatment for Bowen's disease. However, its long-term efficacy remains to be established,...
The efficacy and safety of methyl aminolevulinate daylight photodynamic therapy (MAL DL-PDT) for actinic keratosis (AK) treatment has previously been demonstrated in several studies.
5-aminolevulinic acid nanoemulsion (BF-200 ALA) is more effective than methyl-5-aminolevulinate (MAL) in daylight photodynamic therapy for actinic keratosis: A non-sponsored randomized double-blind multicentre trial.
Daylight photodynamic therapy (DL-PDT) with methyl-5-aminolevulinate (MAL) is an effective treatment for mild and moderate actinic keratosis (AK).
Several previous studies have failed to show superiority of 5 aminolevulinic acid nanoemulsion (BF-200 ALA) over methyl-5-aminolevulinate (MAL) in daylight photodynamic therapy for actinic keratosis (...
Er:YAG ablative fractional laser-assisted methyl aminolevulinate photodynamic therapy (AFL-PDT) has shown significantly higher efficacy and a lower recurrence rate at 12 months than methyl...
There is limited quality research on the effectiveness of treatments in Bowen's disease (BD). Patient and lesion characteristics, patient preferences and costs should be considered when ch...
The purpose of this study is to identify the most optimal therapy for Bowen's disease: excision versus Photodynamic therapy.
In this multicenter study, patients with dark skin and acne vulgaris will be included. The patients will receive treatment with MAL PDT and placebo PDT.
The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy of Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) with methyl aminolevulinate (MAL) cream to PDT with vehicle cream, using the the LED light source Aktilit...
The purified component of HEMATOPORPHYRIN DERIVATIVE, it consists of a mixture of oligomeric porphyrins. It is used in photodynamic therapy (HEMATOPORPHYRIN PHOTORADIATION); to treat malignant lesions with visible light and experimentally as an antiviral agent. It is the first drug to be approved in the use of PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY in the United States.
A complex mixture of monomeric and aggregated porphyrins used in the photodynamic therapy of tumors (HEMATOPORPHYRIN PHOTORADIATION). A purified component of this mixture is known as DIHEMATOPORPHYRIN ETHER.
An enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes condensation of the succinyl group from succinyl coenzyme A with glycine to form delta-aminolevulinate. It is a pyridoxyal phosphate protein and the reaction occurs in mitochondria as the first step of the heme biosynthetic pathway. The enzyme is a key regulatory enzyme in heme biosynthesis. In liver feedback is inhibited by heme. EC 22.214.171.124.
A direct form of psychotherapy based on the interpretation of situations (cognitive structure of experiences) that determine how an individual feels and behaves. It is based on the premise that cognition, the process of acquiring knowledge and forming beliefs, is a primary determinant of mood and behavior. The therapy uses behavioral and verbal techniques to identify and correct negative thinking that is at the root of the aberrant behavior.
3-((4-Amino-2-methyl-5-pyrimidinyl)methyl)-4-methyl-5-(4,6,8,8-tetrahydroxy-3,5,7-trioxa-4,6,8-triphosphaoct-1-yl)thiazolium hydroxide, inner salt, P,P',P''-trioxide. The triphosphate ester of thiamine. In Leigh's disease, this compound is present in decreased amounts in the brain due to a metabolic block in its formation.
Surgery is a technology consisting of a physical intervention on tissues. All forms of surgery are considered invasive procedures; so-called "noninvasive surgery" usually refers to an excision that does not penetrate the structure being exci...
