Maternal nutrition and genetics are determinants of breast-milk nutrient composition and, as such, are determinants of the nutritional exposure of breastfed infants.

Several studies have investigated association of MTHFR 677C > T and 1298A > C polymorphisms with risk of autism, but they have reported controversial and inconclusive results. The present meta...
This investigation profiled circulating serum concentrations of microRNAs (miRNAs) in premature cardiovascular disease (CVD) patients screened for the 677C > T polymorphism in methylenetetrahydrof...
Polymorphisms in folate-related genes are closely related to the development of cancer. The 5,10-MTHFR 677C>T and RFC1 80G>A polymorphisms are associated with an increased risk of susceptibility to pe...
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is the critical enzyme in biotransformation. The polymorphism of MTHFR is a risk factor for schizophrenia. However, whether the MTHFR polymorphism is associ...
Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is involved in DNA methylation that is associated with autoimmune pathology. We investigated the association between MTHFR genetic polymorphisms at g.677C>T...
This study is part of the East Jakarta Cohort Study to assess the current micronutrient status of the mothers and their children. The study also includes the assessment of genotyping of MT...
The common polymorphism in MTHFR gene (C677T) has a significant effect on (6S)-5-CH3-H4folate after folic acid supplementation. For example, post supplementation differences in (6S)-5-CH3-...
The C677T polymorphism in the MTHFR gene is related to several significant biochemical changes, as dyslipidemia, changes in serum levels of homocysteine, folic acid, vitamin B12 and some o...
The development of diabetic nephropathy has been linked to several genetic polymorphisms, including those related with homocysteine metabolism such as the methylenetetrahydrofolate reducta...
Folic acid supplementation (1mg/d) is the standard recommendation for Canadian children with Sickle cell disease (SCD), even though it can provide up to six times the recommended intake am...
The active metabolite of FOLIC ACID. Leucovorin is used principally as its calcium salt as an antidote to folic acid antagonists which block the conversion of folic acid to folinic acid.
Cell surface receptors that bind to and transport FOLIC ACID, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, and a variety of folic acid derivatives. The receptors are essential for normal NEURAL TUBE development and transport folic acid via receptor-mediated endocytosis.
Derivatives of folic acid (pteroylglutamic acid). In gamma-glutamyl linkage they are found in many tissues. They are converted to folic acid by the action of pteroylpolyglutamate hydrolase or synthesized from folic acid by the action of folate polyglutamate synthetase. Synthetic pteroylpolyglutamic acids, which are in alpha-glutamyl linkage, are active in bacterial growth assays.
A nutritional condition produced by a deficiency of FOLIC ACID in the diet. Many plant and animal tissues contain folic acid, abundant in green leafy vegetables, yeast, liver, and mushrooms but destroyed by long-term cooking. Alcohol interferes with its intermediate metabolism and absorption. Folic acid deficiency may develop in long-term anticonvulsant therapy or with use of oral contraceptives. This deficiency causes anemia, macrocytic anemia, and megaloblastic anemia. It is indistinguishable from vitamin B 12 deficiency in peripheral blood and bone marrow findings, but the neurologic lesions seen in B 12 deficiency do not occur. (Merck Manual, 16th ed)
