Dorsally displaced facial nerve in retrosigmoid transmeatal approach for vestibular schwannoma: 3-dimensional operative video.

Dorsal displacement of the facial nerve is relatively rare in patients with vestibular schwannoma, and its prediction remains difficult in patients with large tumors even with the recent advances in p...

Objective assessment of blinking and facial expressions in Parkinson's disease using vertical electrooculogram and facial surface electromyography.

Hypomimia is a common and early symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD), which reduces the ability of PD patients in manifesting emotions. Currently, it is visually evaluated by the neurologist during neu...

Bioplastic recovery from wastewater: A new protocol for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) extraction from mixed microbial cultures.

A new protocol for polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) extraction from mixed microbial cultures (MMCs) is proposed. PHA-accumulating capacity of the MMC was selected in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) fed wi...

Estimating carotid pulse and breathing rate from near-infrared video of the neck.

Non-contact physiological measurement is a growing research area that allows capturing vital signs such as heart rate (HR) and breathing rate (BR) comfortably and unobtrusively with remote devices. Ho...

Full video pulse extraction.

This paper introduces a new method to automate heart-rate detection using remote photoplethysmography (rPPG). The method replaces the commonly used region of interest (RoI) detection and tracking, and...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Used with articles which include video files or clips, or for articles which are entirely video.

Use of various chemical separation and extraction methods, such as SOLID PHASE EXTRACTION; CHROMATOGRAPHY; and SUPERCRITICAL FLUID EXTRACTION; to prepare samples for analytical measurement of components.

Endoscopic surgical procedures performed with visualization via video transmission. When real-time video is combined interactively with prior CT scans or MRI images, this is called image-guided surgery (see SURGERY, COMPUTER-ASSISTED).

A form of interactive entertainment in which the player controls electronically generated images that appear on a video display screen. This includes video games played in the home on special machines or home computers, and those played in arcades. (McGraw Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 7th ed, v19, p223)

Severe or complete loss of facial muscle motor function. This condition may result from central or peripheral lesions. Damage to CNS motor pathways from the cerebral cortex to the facial nuclei in the pons leads to facial weakness that generally spares the forehead muscles. FACIAL NERVE DISEASES generally results in generalized hemifacial weakness. NEUROMUSCULAR JUNCTION DISEASES and MUSCULAR DISEASES may also cause facial paralysis or paresis.
