Our study found an association between allopurinol and reduced risk of mortality and cardiovascular outcomes in subjects with diabetes. However, although this association was observed in analyses that classified time as exposed or unexposed to allopurinol and in analyses that classified time according to current dose categories, we found no association in analyses classifying time according to cumulative allopurinol dose. This article provides an integrative review of the literature on long-term opioid use, its effects on the cardiovascular system, and its implications for nurses.
The safety of newer xanthine oxidase inhibitor-febuxostat comparing to allopurinol remains unclear. To compare the risks of allopurinol- and febuxostat-hypersensitivity and cardiovascular diseases (CV...
Previous studies have demonstrated that high-dose allopurinol is able to regress left ventricular (LV) mass in cohorts with established cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to assess whet...
To evaluate safety and efficacy of BCX4208 alone and in combination with allopurinol in subjects with gout.
The purpose of this study is to see if subjects with gout who receive febuxostat or allopurinol, once daily (QD), have a higher rate of serious heart and blood vessel complications.
The purpose of this study is to determine the long-term safety of febuxostat compared to allopurinol in reducing serum urate levels in subjects with gout.

A persistent activity-dependent decrease in synaptic efficacy between NEURONS. It typically occurs following repeated low-frequency afferent stimulation, but it can be induced by other methods. Long-term depression appears to play a role in MEMORY.
Persistent detrimental effects from treatment for a condition. Included are effects from surgery such as POSTOPERATIVE COMPLICATIONS, and from DRUG THERAPY, such as CHEMICALLY INDUCED DISORDERS, or other THERAPEUTICS. Failure to attain a desired outcome from treatment for the condition is not considered an adverse effect.

A persistent increase in synaptic efficacy, usually induced by appropriate activation of the same synapses. The phenomenological properties of long-term potentiation suggest that it may be a cellular mechanism of learning and memory.
