Summary of "Prognostic value of retropharyngeal lymph node metastasis laterality in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and a proposed modification to the UICC/AJCC N staging system."

Metastasis laterality is used for N classification of cervical lymph nodes, but not retropharyngeal lymph nodes (RLNs). This study explored the prognostic value of laterality of RLN metastasis to provide suggestions for a better N standard classification.

Prognostic Significance of Metastatic Lymph Node Ratio in Patients with pN3 Gastric Cancer Who Underwent Curative Gastrectomy.

Lymph node involvement is an important prognostic factor in patients with gastric cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic significance of metastatic lymph node ratio (MLNR) and c...

Difficulty of predicting lymph node metastasis on CT in patients with rectal neuroendocrine tumors.

Surgical indications for rectal neuroendocrine tumors with potential lymph node metastasis remain controversial. Although accurate preoperative diagnosis of nodal status may be helpful for treatment s...

Isolated submandibular lymph node metastasis in pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is a highly aggressive malignancy that usually presents at a late stage. Common sites of metastasis include the liver, lung and adjacent lymph nodes. Cervical lymph node invo...

Pancreatic Cancer Lymph Node Resection Revisited: A Novel Calculation of the Number of Lymph Nodes Required.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer related deaths in the U.S. Though lymph node metastasis is a prognostic indicator, the extent of lymph node (LN) resection is still debated. Our ...

Expression of CD9 and CD82 in Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma and Its Prognostic Significance.

Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma is a well-known malignant neoplasm with good prognosis. The known prognostic factors are patient's age, multifocality, and extrathyroidal extension. CD9 and CD82, memb...

Verifying the Specificity of a New Method in Predicting Lymph Node Metastasis in Early Gastric Cancer Patients

Early gastric cancer is defined as gastric cancer that only invades mucosal or submucosal layer. The 5-year survival rate of gastric cancer can exceed 90% due to appropriate treatment. The...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

First lymph node to receive drainage from the primary tumor. SENTINEL LYMPH NODE BIOPSY is performed to determine early METASTASIS status because cancer cells may appear first in the sentinel node.

A diagnostic procedure used to determine whether LYMPHATIC METASTASIS has occurred. The sentinel lymph node is the first lymph node to receive drainage from a neoplasm.

An accumulation of purulent material in the space between the PHARYNX and the CERVICAL VERTEBRAE. This usually results from SUPPURATION of retropharyngeal LYMPH NODES in patients with UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS, perforation of the pharynx, or head and neck injuries.

Malignant lymphoma in which the lymphomatous cells are clustered into identifiable nodules within the LYMPH NODES. The nodules resemble to some extent the GERMINAL CENTER of lymph node follicles and most likely represent neoplastic proliferation of lymph node-derived follicular center B-LYMPHOCYTES.

The local lymph node assay (LLNA) is an alternative method for the identification of chemicals that have the ability to cause skin sensitization and allergic contact dermatitis. Endpoints have been established so fewer animals are required and less painful procedures are used.
