The benefits of breastfeeding and breast milk are well established. Women may intend to exclusively breastfeed their infants, but they often need to provide expressed breast milk upon returning to emp...
Breast milk is a complex fluid that adapts to satisfy the infant's nutritional requirements. It also provides compounds that protect the infant from infections by helping to create the right microenvi...
Appropriate decontamination of breast pump milk collection kits (BPK) is critical to obtain safe milk for infants and to avoid discarding donor human milk (DHM).
When sufficient maternal breast milk is not available, alternative forms of enteral nutrition for preterm or low birth weight (LBW) infants are donor breast milk or artificial formula. Donor breast mi...
Preterm infants who are fed breast milk in comparison to infant formula have decreased morbidity such as necrotizing enterocolitis. Multi-nutrient fortifiers used to increase the nutritional content o...
Pain is a frequent occurrence during the early life of premature newborns. Studies on the short term effects of pain, and potential for long-term ones, have shown that pain affects various...
The biochemical differences in the composition of breast milk and formula have not been profoundly established in all compound groups. Increased understanding of breast milk composition, t...
The purpose of this study is to determine if small oral and sublingual doses of milk protein are safe and effective in decreasing sensitivity to cow's milk in allergic children.
Breast milk is an extremely complex and highly variable biofliud that has evolved to nourish infants and protect them from disease whilst their own immune system matures. The composition o...
The overall goal of this research is to clarify the relationship between reported maternal stress, biological measures of maternal stress, breast milk biomarkers and milk quantity. Our pri...

A condition associated with multiple episodes of sleep apnea which are distinguished from obstructive sleep apnea (SLEEP APNEA, OBSTRUCTIVE) by the complete cessation of efforts to breathe. This disorder is associated with dysfunction of central nervous system centers that regulate respiration. This condition may be idiopathic (primary) or associated with lower brain stem lesions; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (LUNG DISEASES, OBSTRUCTIVE); HEART FAILURE, CONGESTIVE; medication effect; and other conditions. Sleep maintenance is impaired, resulting in daytime hypersomnolence. Primary central sleep apnea is frequently associated with obstructive sleep apnea. When both forms are present the condition is referred to as mixed sleep apnea (see SLEEP APNEA SYNDROMES). (Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p395; Neurol Clin 1996;14(3):611-28)
Allergic reaction to milk (usually cow's milk) or milk products. MILK HYPERSENSITIVITY should be differentiated from LACTOSE INTOLERANCE, an intolerance to milk as a result of congenital deficiency of lactase.
Disorders characterized by multiple cessations of respirations during sleep that induce partial arousals and interfere with the maintenance of sleep. Sleep apnea syndromes are divided into central (see SLEEP APNEA, CENTRAL), obstructive (see SLEEP APNEA, OBSTRUCTIVE), and mixed central-obstructive types.
Glandular tissue in the BREAST of human that is under the influence of hormones such as ESTROGENS; PROGESTINS; and PROLACTIN. In WOMEN, after PARTURITION, the mammary glands secrete milk (MILK, HUMAN) for the nourishment of the young.
