Summary of "Quaternary Phosphonium Salts as Active Brønsted Acid Catalysts for Friedel-Crafts Reactions."

A readily available quaternary phosphonium salt containing a trifluoroacetonyl group and a tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate (BAr) counterion was demonstrated to be a highly active Brønsted acid catalyst for Friedel-Crafts-type reactions of an array of electron-rich heteroarenes and aniline derivatives with isatin-derived ketimines, even at 0.1 mol % catalyst loadings.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Ions with the suffix -onium, indicating cations with coordination number 4 of the type RxA+ which are analogous to QUATERNARY AMMONIUM COMPOUNDS (H4N+). Ions include phosphonium R4P+, oxonium R3O+, sulfonium R3S+, chloronium R2Cl+

Various salts of a quaternary ammonium oxime that reconstitute inactivated acetylcholinesterase, especially at the neuromuscular junction, and may cause neuromuscular blockade. They are used as antidotes to organophosphorus poisoning as chlorides, iodides, methanesulfonates (mesylates), or other salts.

Quaternary salts derived from tetrazoles. They are used in tests to distinguish between reducing sugars and simple aldehydes, for detection of dehydrogenase in tissues, cells, and bacteria, for determination of corticosteroids, and in color photography.
