The response of terrestrial carbon uptake to increasing atmospheric [CO ], i.e., the CO fertilization effect (CFE), remains a key area of uncertainty in carbon cycle science. Here we provide a perspective on how satellite observations could be better used to understand and constrain CFE. We then highlight data assimilation (DA) as an effective way to reconcile different satellite datasets and systematically constrain carbon uptake trends in Earth System Models. As a proof-of-concept, we show that joint DA of multiple independent satellite datasets reduced model ensemble error by better constraining unobservable processes and variables, including those directly impacted by CFE. DA of multiple satellite datasets offers a powerful technique that could improve understanding of CFE and enable more accurate forecasts of terrestrial carbon uptake. Terrestrial photosynthesis is the largest and one of the most uncertain fluxes in the global carbon cycle. We find that NIR , a remotely sensed measure of canopy structure, accurately predicts photosy...
Elevated CO is widely accepted to enhance terrestrial carbon sink, especially in arid and semi-arid regions. However, great uncertainties exist for the CO fertilisation effects, particularly when its ...
Current estimates of the carbon flux between the surface and mantle are highly variable, and the total amount of carbon stored in closed hidden reservoirs is unknown. Understanding the forms in which ...
Dietary uptake is a key step in conveying both toxic mercury (Hg; particularly as highly bioavailable methylmercury, MeHg) and essential dietary biochemicals, such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA...
The terrestrial chapter of the Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Programme (CBMP) has the potential to bring international multi-taxon, long-term monitoring together, but detailed fundamental specie...
The purpose of this study is to better understand a new type of radiology test called positron emission tomography (PET) with carbon 11 methionine to determine which patients have a benefi...
To determine the level of association between the quantitative estimates of brain uptake of [18F]flutemetamol and the quantitative immunohistochemical and histochemistry estimates of amylo...
Carbon monoxide poisoning is common. Many adults with CO poisoning have long-term, even permanent brain injury following poisoning. However, very little is known about the long-term outcom...
This study will determine the level of association between the quantitative estimates of brain uptake of [18F]flutemetamol and the quantitative immunohistochemical estimates of amyloid lev...
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of two carbon monoxide doses when administered as an inhaled gas for 1 hour in patients receiving kidney transplants.
A family of terrestrial carnivores with long, slender bodies, long tails, and anal scent glands. They include badgers, weasels, martens, FERRETS; MINKS; wolverines, polecats, and OTTERS.
Any of several processes for the permanent or long-term artificial or natural capture or removal and storage of carbon dioxide and other forms of carbon, through biological, chemical or physical processes, in a manner that prevents it from being released into the atmosphere.
A family of long-tailed terrestrial omnivores including RACCOONS, ringtails, and coatimundis.
Drugs that inhibit the transport of neurotransmitters into axon terminals or into storage vesicles within terminals. For many transmitters, uptake determines the time course of transmitter action so inhibiting uptake prolongs the activity of the transmitter. Blocking uptake may also deplete available transmitter stores. Many clinically important drugs are uptake inhibitors although the indirect reactions of the brain rather than the acute block of uptake itself is often responsible for the therapeutic effects.
A family of large terrestrial carnivores possessing long legs, coarse guard hairs and a busy tail. It is comprised of hyenas and aardwolves.
