Summary of "Nusinersen Improves Walking Distance and Reduces Fatigue in Later-Onset SMA."

Ambulatory individuals with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) experience muscle weakness, gait impairments and fatigue that affect their walking ability. Improvements have been observed in motor function in children treated with nusinersen but its impact on fatigue has not been studied.

Gait Characteristics of Children Born Preterm.

Walking is a central skill of daily living. A delay in the onset of walking can be a sign of abnormal motor development. Further, abnormalities in gait can also affect physical functioning. Children b...

Physical activity in mild multiple sclerosis: contribution of perceived fatigue, energy cost, and speed of walking.

To clarify the relationship between leisure-time physical activity, perceived fatigue, and energy expenditure while walking in people with multiple sclerosis.

Effect of Bilateral and Unilateral Plantarflexor Muscle Fatigue on Blind Navigation Precision and Gait Parameters.

The objective was to evaluate the impact of bilateral and unilateral fatigue of the plantarflexor muscles on blind navigation. Thirty-eight young adults walked 8-m without vision before fatigue (pre-f...

Testing a biobehavioral model of fatigue before adjuvant therapy in women with breast cancer.

The aim of the study is to set up a pilot study to investigate the effects of treadmill training in preventing the onset and worsening of walking impairments, balance deficits and fatigue.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

An activity in which the body advances at a slow to moderate pace by moving the feet in a coordinated fashion. This includes recreational walking, walking for fitness, and competitive race-walking.

The rate at which steps are made while walking.

The act of knowing or the recognition of a distance by recollective thought, or by means of a sensory process which is under the influence of set and of prior experience.

A state arrived at through prolonged and strong contraction of a muscle. Studies in athletes during prolonged submaximal exercise have shown that muscle fatigue increases in almost direct proportion to the rate of muscle glycogen depletion. Muscle fatigue in short-term maximal exercise is associated with oxygen lack and an increased level of blood and muscle lactic acid, and an accompanying increase in hydrogen-ion concentration in the exercised muscle.

Observation and aquisition of physical data from a distance by viewing and making measurements from a distance or receiving transmitted data from observations made at distant location.
