Summary of "Interdisciplinary Plastic Surgery - Chances, Conditions and Barriers of Reconstructive Microsurgery in Maximum Care Hospitals."

The introduction of free tissue transfers has revolutionized reconstructive purposes. This is particularly important after extensive traumas, profound infections and tumor resections. Nevertheless, independent plastic surgery centers are not available at 11 of 35 university hospitals in Germany. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the importance of reconstructive microsurgery at a university hospital in interdisciplinary cooperation on the basis of cases treated in one year.
