Summary of "Immunohistochemical expression of CD44v9 and 8-OHdG in ovarian endometrioma and the benign endometriotic lesions adjacent to clear cell carcinoma."

Expression of CD44 variant isoforms (CD44v) promotes the synthesis of reduced glutathione and contributes to reactive oxygen species defense through up-regulation of the intracellular antioxidant. The aim of the study was to investigate the expression of CD44v9 and oxidative DNA damage marker, 8-OHdG, in benign ovarian endometrioma (OE) and OE harboring clear cell carcinomas (CCC).

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

The triad of benign FIBROMA or other ovarian tumors with ASCITES, and HYDROTHORAX due to large PLEURAL EFFUSIONS.

Cessation of ovarian function after MENARCHE but before the age of 40, without or with OVARIAN FOLLICLE depletion. It is characterized by the presence of OLIGOMENORRHEA or AMENORRHEA, elevated GONADOTROPINS, and low ESTRADIOL levels. It is a state of female HYPERGONADOTROPIC HYPOGONADISM. Etiologies include genetic defects, autoimmune processes, chemotherapy, radiation, and infections.

Rare malignant neoplasm of dendritic LANGERHANS CELLS exhibiting atypical cytology, frequent mitoses, and aggressive clinical behavior. They can be distinguished from other histiocytic and dendritic proliferations by immunohistochemical and ultrastructure studies. Cytologically benign proliferations of Langerhans cells are called LANGERHANS CELL HISTIOCYTOSIS.

Tumors or cancer of the OVARY. These neoplasms can be benign or malignant. They are classified according to the tissue of origin, such as the surface EPITHELIUM, the stromal endocrine cells, and the totipotent GERM CELLS.
