: Late-stage functionalization (LSF) can introduce important chemical groups in the very last steps of the synthesis. LSF has the potential to speed up the preparation of novel chemical entities and diverse chemical libraries and have a major impact on drug discovery. Functional group tolerance and mild conditions allows access to new molecules not easily accessible by conventional approaches without the need for laborious chemical synthesis. : A historical overview of late-stage functionalization and its applicability to drug discovery is provided. Pioneering methodologies that laid the foundations for the field are briefly covered and archetypal examples of their application to drug discovery are discussed. Novel methodologies reported in the past few years mainly stemming from the recent renaissances of photoredox catalysis and radical chemistry are reviewed and their application to drug discovery considered. : It is envisioned that late-stage functionalization will improve the efficiency and efficacy of drug discovery. There is evidence of the widespread uptake of LSF by the medicinal chemistry community and it is expected that the recent and continuing endeavors of many academic laboratories and pharmaceutical companies will soon have an impact on drug development.

A multi-centre observational, non-interventional study is to dynamically monitor the changes of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in late stage NSCLC patients under Gefitinib treatment.
The purpose of this study is to see if it is safe and effective to give WF10 to adults with late-stage HIV disease. WF10 is suspected to help the immune system fight infection and slow HIV...
The process of finding chemicals for potential therapeutic use.
A modified Greco-Arabic medical system flourishing today as unani medicine. It was the product of Arab physicians and scholars captivated by Greek philosophy, science, and medicine. It is practiced today in India and Pakistan, largely as a type of herbal medicine. (From Magner, A History of Medicine, 1992, p136)
Functionalization of exogenous substances to prepare them for conjugation in PHASE II DETOXIFICATION. Phase I enzymes include CYTOCHROME P450 enzymes and some OXIDOREDUCTASES. Excess induction of phase I over phase II detoxification leads to higher levels of FREE RADICALS that can induce CANCER and other cell damage. Induction or antagonism of phase I detoxication is the basis of a number of DRUG INTERACTIONS.
