Summary of "Use of Individual Anatomical Variations to Customise Window Location in Montgomery Implant Thyroplasty: A Case Series Study."

Medialization thyroplasty with Montgomery implant uses sex-based criteria, which can occasionally lead to suboptimal positioning of the prosthesis. We described a surgical procedure and a set of measurement devices which can be used to customise the placement of cartilage-windows. This case series study describes the changes in the cartilage-window location compared to standard the window placement recommended by Montgomery. All the patients except one required window adjustment; in 78.9% the window was repositioned inferiorly; in 31.6% of cases it was repositioned both inferiorly and anteriorly. Individual anatomic variations beyond those related to sex can influence the location of the cartilage window in Montgomery thyroplasty.
