Summary of "Change in hepatic fat content measured by MRI does not predict treatment-induced histological improvement of steatohepatitis."

Proof-of-concept studies frequently assess changes in intrahepatic triglyceride (IHTG) content by MR-based techniques as a surrogate marker of histology. The aim of this study was to establish how reliable this strategy is to predict changes in liver histology in patients with NASH.

Hepatic PGC-1α is not essential for fasting-induced cytochrome p450 regulation in mouse liver.

Fasting has been shown to regulate the expression of the cytochrome p450 (CYP) enzyme system in the liver. However, the exact mechanism behind the fasting-induced regulation of the CYP's remains unkno...

Hepatoprotection of yangonin against hepatic fibrosis in mice via farnesoid X receptor activation.

Hepatic fibrosis is a reversible would-healing response following chronic liver injury of different aetiologies and represents a major worldwide health problem. Up to date, there is no satisfactory dr...

Vitamin D3 abates BDL-induced cholestasis and fibrosis in rats via regulating Hedgehog pathway.

Liver cholestasis is a complex disease of broad etiologies. Hedgehog (Hh) signaling has been shown to play a pivotal role in modulating liver repair post cholestatic liver injury. We here investigated...

Melatonin ameliorates SGLT2 inhibitor-induced diabetic ketoacidosis by inhibiting lipolysis and hepatic ketogenesis in type 2 diabetic mice.

Sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) are effective hypoglycemic agents that can induce glycosuria. However, there are increasing concerns that they might induce diabetic ketoacidosis. Th...

Oral Administration of Alleviates Insulin Resistance and Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis.

Metabolic syndrome is recognized as a proinflammatory condition leading to hepatic steatosis and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). We tested the effects of a succulent species N.E. Br., of the ex ...

Hepatic Glycogen and Fat Oxidation

Excessive fat in the liver is associated with impairments in metabolic health. Low levels of DNL and high levels of hepatic fat oxidation are considered to be protective. A decrease in gl...

Breath Test to Assess Hepatic Metabolic Reserve and to Predict Hepatic Decompensation in Cirrhotics

The three objectives of this trial are: 1. To demonstrate that a decline in hepatic metabolic function as measured by BreathID will correlate with changes in CTP and MELD scores in...

Evaluation of Trans-Hepatic Flow Changes in Major Hepatectomy

Changes in trans-hepatic flow after major and extended hepatectomy (EH) can lead to small for size and flow syndrome (SFSF), which is associated with a significantly higher rate of morbidi...

Treatment of Hepatic Encephalopathy With Flumazenil and Change in Cortical GABA Levels in MRS

The purpose of this study is to test feasibility of measuring flumazenil-induced changes in cortical GABA levels observed with localized 1H-MRS in relation to changes in severity of hepati...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Measurement of blood flow based on induction at one point of the circulation of a known change in the intravascular heat content of flowing blood and detection of the resultant change in temperature at a point downstream.

Conditions in which the LIVER functions fall below the normal ranges. Severe hepatic insufficiency may cause LIVER FAILURE or DEATH. Treatment may include LIVER TRANSPLANTATION.

A change in the CERVIX UTERI with respect to its readiness to relax. The cervix normally becomes softer, more flexible, more distensible, and shorter in the final weeks of PREGNANCY. These cervical changes can also be chemically induced (LABOR, INDUCED).

The capability of the LUNGS to distend under pressure as measured by pulmonary volume change per unit pressure change. While not a complete description of the pressure-volume properties of the lung, it is nevertheless useful in practice as a measure of the comparative stiffness of the lung.
