Modulation of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein improves clinical outcomes in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) and specific CFTR genetic mutations. It remains unclear how improving CFTR function modifies existing airway infection and inflammation.

Several studies have reported that gut and lung microbiomes are involved in the process of asthma pathogenesis. However, it remains unclear how perinatal or early-life antibiotic intervention affect a...
Ivacaftor is a recently FDA-approved drug for the treatment of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients with at least one copy of the G511D mutation in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CF...
Airways of children with cystic fibrosis (CF) harbor complex polymicrobial communities which correlates with pulmonary disease progression and use of antibiotics. Throat swabs are widely used in young...
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by recurrent airways obstruction, airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), airway inflammation and airway remodeling, which is often associated with all...
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an inflammatory lung disorder associated with lung microbiome dysbiosis. Although the upper airway microbiome is the source of the lung microbiome, the ...
Using an active cohort of children in whom Airway and gastrointestinal endoscopy will be performed, investigators will conduct a chart review to obtain relevant clinical data and the inves...
The purpose of this research study is to determine the effects of clinically prescribed ivacaftor treatment on 1 to 2-year-old children with CF and gating mutations on sleeping energy expe...
Based on previous clinical findings, we hypothesize that ivacaftor will have synergistic effects with drugs that facilitate truncated but partially active W1282X CFTR protein processing (t...
This is a Phase 3, 2-arm, multicenter study with an open-label ivacaftor arm and an observational arm to evaluate the safety and efficacy of long-term ivacaftor treatment in subjects with ...
This is a Phase 3, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, parallel group, multicenter study in people with CF who are homozygous for the F508del CFTR mutation.
A form of bronchial disorder with three distinct components: airway hyper-responsiveness (RESPIRATORY HYPERSENSITIVITY), airway INFLAMMATION, and intermittent AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION. It is characterized by spasmodic contraction of airway smooth muscle, WHEEZING, and dyspnea (DYSPNEA, PAROXYSMAL).
A type of oropharyngeal airway that provides an alternative to endotracheal intubation and standard mask anesthesia in certain patients. It is introduced into the hypopharynx to form a seal around the larynx thus permitting spontaneous or positive pressure ventilation without penetration of the larynx or esophagus. It is used in place of a facemask in routine anesthesia. The advantages over standard mask anesthesia are better airway control, minimal anesthetic gas leakage, a secure airway during patient transport to the recovery area, and minimal postoperative problems.
A technique of respiratory therapy, in either spontaneously breathing or mechanically ventilated patients, in which airway pressure is maintained above atmospheric pressure throughout the respiratory cycle by pressurization of the ventilatory circuit.
