Changes in resting metabolic rate and body composition due to intragastric balloon therapy.

Summary of "Changes in resting metabolic rate and body composition due to intragastric balloon therapy."

Intragastric balloon (IGB) insertion leads to dietary restriction; however, its neurohormonal actions were also described. Resting metabolic rate (RMR) adjusted for body mass (RMR/mass) seems to increase after bariatric interventions, whereas it generally decreases after caloric restriction-based therapies. However, no studies have evaluated the changes in body composition and RMR over IGB treatment.

Ventilation Frequency Reveals the Roles of Exchange Surface Areas in Metabolic Scaling.

The surface area (SA) theory proposes that resting metabolic rate (RMR) scales with body mass, which parallels the exchange SA of organisms, and that a species with a larger scaling exponent of exchan...

Codeine delays gastric emptying through inhibition of gastric motility as assessed with a novel diagnostic intragastric balloon catheter.

The use of opioids as analgesic is on the rise, despite their inhibitory effect on gastric emptying. A novel feeding catheter with integrated intragastric balloon was developed to continuously assess ...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

A measurement of OXYGEN uptake in a sitting, resting person (resting oxygen consumption), varying with age, sex, race, and other factors. In normal adult men, one MET is approximately 3.5 ml O2/kg/min of body weight. Oxygen uptake during activities or work can be measured in METs which can be use to determine health status and exercise prescription.

The relative amounts of various components in the body, such as percentage of body fat.

The use of balloon CATHETERS to remove emboli by retraction of the balloon that is inflated behind the EMBOLUS.
