Summary of "Effect of Reducing Sample Volume on the Detection of Drugs in Urine by Transmission Mode Direct Analysis in Real Time - Mass Spectrometry."

Matrix interference attributed to urea and other nitrogenous substances in unprocessed urine is significant. In this study desorption ionization of sub-microliter volume samples is performed in an effort to improve the detection of drugs from unprocessed urine by Transmission Mode - Direct Analysis in Real Time - Mass Spectrometry (TM-DART-MS).

Determination of appropriate urine volume cutoff values for voided urine specimens to assess adequacy.

Incorporating urine volume into adequacy assessment was recommended by The Paris System for Reporting Urinary Cytology. The concept was relatively new, however, and supportive studies were sparse. We ...

Development and evaluation of automated ultrasonographic detection of bladder diameter for estimation of bladder urine volume.

Bladder urine volume has been estimated using an ellipsoid method based on triaxial measurements of the bladder extrapolated from two-dimensional ultrasound images. This study aimed to automate this p...

Storage of urine specimens in point of care (POC) urine drug testing cups reduces concentrations of many drugs.

Many clinical toxicology laboratories receive urine specimens in urine cups that contain point of care (POC) drug testing strips. We conducted this study to evaluate the effect on the stability of com...

Optimizing bacterial DNA extraction in urine.

Urine is an acceptable, non-invasive sample for investigating the human urogenital microbiota and for the diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections. However, low quantities of bacterial DNA and PCR...

On-line in-tube solid phase microextraction coupled to capillary liquid chromatography-diode array detection for the analysis of caffeine and its metabolites in small amounts of biological samples.

In-tube solid phase microextraction (IT-SPME) coupled on-line to capillary liquid chromatography with diode array detection provides a simple and fast analytical methodology for the simultaneous quant...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Detection of drugs that have been abused, overused, or misused, including legal and illegal drugs. Urine screening is the usual method of detection.

An immunoenzyme test for the presence of drugs and other substances in urine and blood. The test uses enzyme linked antibodies that react only with the particular drug for which the sample is being tested.

Abnormalities in the process of URINE voiding, including bladder control, frequency of URINATION, as well as the volume and composition of URINE.

A method of simultaneously imaging and measuring elements at the submicron level. Nuclear microscopy uses a focused high-energy ion beam of PROTONS and ALPHA PARTICLES (a nuclear microprobe) to interact with the sample. The resulting emitted radiations are analyzed by a group of techniques simultaneously: PARTICLE INDUCED X RAY EMISSION SPECTROMETRY for minor and trace element identification; Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy to assess sample thickness and bulk elements such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen; and Scanning Transmission Ion Microscopy to assess sample structure and density.

The number of PLATELETS per unit volume in a sample of venous BLOOD.
