Previously we observed an attenuation of body temperature in lactating rats treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) compared with virgin saline-treated females. We proposed that high levels of prolactin (PRL) during lactation may induce this attenuation because PRL has a suppressive effect on inflammation. In the present study, we induced hyperprolactinemia in female virgin rats to investigate the effects of PRL on body temperature and sickness behavior induced by LPS.

Biological motion is a powerful perceptual cue that can reveal important information about the inner state of an individual. Activation of inflammatory processes likely leads to changes in gait, postu...
Acute mountain sickness is the most prevalent illness related to acute exposure to high altitude, secondary to the hypobaric hypoxia effects in our body. Acetazolamide has been traditionally used for ...
We aimed to use temperature and the area under temperature curve to represent the severity of abnormal body temperature of patients with septic shock and to observe their impact on the prognosis. Five...
Effect of dietary supplementation with brewer's yeast hydrolysate on growth performance, faecal microbial counts, diarrhoea score, blood profile, rectal temperature in weanling pigs challenged with lipopolysaccharide.
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of brewer's yeast hydrolysate (BYH) supplementation on growth performance, blood profile, diarrhoea score, faecal microbial and rectal temperat...
Mastitis has deleterious effects on ovarian function and reproductive performance. We studied the association between plasma or follicular fluid (FF) obtained from endotoxin-induced mastitic cows, and...
Epinephrine (adrenaline) is a substance produced by the body (in the adrenal gland) in response to stress such as infection or injury. Endotoxin is a man- made substance, which causes the ...
In this randomized double blind cross-over study 8 healthy persons were injected with 0.8 ng/kg body weight lipopolysaccharide (LPS) /endotoxin and placebo at two different occasions. The ...
The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of prolactin on adrenal steroid profiles in patients with hyperprolactinemia due to prolactinomas before and after initialisation of tre...
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of chronic elevated levels of Prolactin on metabolism and insulin sensitivity by studying patients with hyperprolactinemia before an...
The study is aimed to assess the severities of hyperprolactinemia caused by antipsychotic drugs and the effects of the duration of hyperprolactinemia on bone metabolism in schizophrenia pa...
Disorder caused by motion, as sea sickness, train sickness, car sickness, air sickness, or SPACE MOTION SICKNESS. It may include nausea, vomiting and dizziness.
Measurement of the temperature of a material, or of the body or an organ by various temperature sensing devices which measure changes in properties of the material that vary with temperature, such as ELASTICITY; MAGNETIC FIELDS; or LUMINESCENCE.
Significant alterations in temperature of the human body, above or below 98.6 degrees F. or 37 degrees C. when taken orally.
The TEMPERATURE at the outer surface of the body.
The processes of heating and cooling that an organism uses to control its temperature.
